860 LP vaporizer parts

Hi: Does anyone know where you can get a LP vaporizer for a 860 ford? As far as I can tell and I am pretty sure this could be an aftermarket unit and this unit bolts on to the front of the engine block at the thermostat housing and uses the engine coolant to warm/vaporize the lp. Are there any other kind of vaporizers that can be used on this tractor with this kind of system and where/who sell them[new or used]? Are there any parts yards that might have LP tractors for salvage? Did Ford make a factory LP tractor in the 600 or 800 series tractor? Thanks Hal

I know the 901 had lp available, as my 951 was originally on LP... but was converted to gas at some point in it's life..

Impco model J is what I have on my 850, similar to what you describe, installed at the top of the front of the engine. I believe this one was converted too, not sure if I can tell by the serial number if it was factory or not. It has the Impco model J vaporizor, associated hoses and circuit wires, carburetor, and a 30 lb forklift tank with cradle holder typically found on forklifts, can use a 40 lb tank if needed, just hard to heave up and over the loader arms.

If you look in a ford tractor shop manual and or parts manual, you will see some information on factory LP models, believe they were offered for both 600's and 800's, they are missing the hood door, and have a tank attached, not the same as my forklift type set up, it is a factory arrangement.

A couple of years ago I rebuilt my Impco Model J vaporizor, got the parts kit from a local supplier, and got hosed for $160 for it, found the same kit on ebay for $20-$30, forget now but was slightly p%ssed about it, called the supplier and asked what gives, yeah I needed the parts and wanted to get the tractor up and running, but live and learn, I guess we all get taken once in awhile. Was real easy to rebuild and performs much better than it did, it would stall out, harder to start in cold temps like below 20 deg, still can be hard to start in the cold, but not like it was, also much better on fuel consumption think this also repaired a leak. Not much to look at, but for a working tractor, I like it, can take a spare tank with me, just plug and play, also the oil stays clean, I'll be honest, have not changed it since Aug '04, just starting to turn color now, using 15W-40 Rotella, always been one to change fluids and do maintenance, that oil just stayed super clean it seems.

The LPG system is included in the "Ford Shop Manual Supplement- Running Production Changes for 1957" so LPG became available on either the very last '00's or the early '01's.

I HAVE AN 871L (L=LP) I HAVE TALKED WITH SEVERAL REGARDING THEIR FINDING LP PARTS AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT THERE ARE DEALERS WITH NEW PARTS STILL IF YOUR WILLING TO LOOK AROUND AND TAKE THE TIME.

FORD BASICALLY USED THE SAME BASIC LP PARTS FOR YEARS SO I WOULDN'T THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE TO MUCH TROUBLE FINDING A VAPORIZER.

HOWEVER; I HAVE BEEN WRONG BEFORE

the -L in the model number indicates that it was a factory LPG tractor so it's obvious that the LPG system came out on the last of the '00's in 1957.

What you are showing in the maunals, are just like the ones that I have. Do you have a parts catalog with numbers of these parts. if so, could you scan and send me a copy of the parts and owners manual on the LP section. If you have to have them copied and sent by snail mail, I will be glad to pay you for them. Thanks Please let me know. Hal
