The hyd pump on a 860 received a kit last year. The hyd system seemed to work OK after that repair. However, if the tractor is not used for a week or so I have to add a cup or so of oil at the pump, start the motor and let it bleed the air out. After that it works fine, lifts the Woods mower quickly and without hesitation. Any ideas as to the cause or fix?

You might try replacing the o rings where the pump mounts to the tubes underneath the pump.I've read here before that sometimes that can let air back in & cause pump to lose prime. Worth a shot in my opinion. I'm just guessin' you have a piston pump (round, kinda looks like a starter) instead of the vane pump (the square lookin' one). Post back which one you have.

Assuming it to be a piston pump, did the kit include the installation of the seal between the drive gear and the pump iself . If so what was the condition of the shaft were the seal rides?

I replaced the O rings, I have a new seal and will replace it and place a new set of O rings in the unit. Thanks for help. Merf
