Not much to do on a schematic... you can hook your alternator charge wire over to the tab ont he VR that was going to the battery....

If you use a 3-wire alternator, then wire that comes from ignition thru dash idiot lamp can then run to #1 terminal if using a delco 10/12 SI model. #2 terminal then jumps down to the charge stud.

Are you going to replace your tach drive with one that sets under the oil filter?.. or are you getting the alternator with a tach drive?

Don't reckon I need a tach drive so it'll probably not get hooked up

If you don't mind 'ear-balling' your rpm.. then a junkyard delco 10-SI from a chevy pickup probably be your cheapest bet.. get the 3 wire job... loop #2 down to charge stud, and run charge stud over tot he bat terminal on the old lucas VR, and then run that line from the ignition thru the idiot lamp in the dash cluster over to #1.. pretty much all there is to it... plus you will have to rig up some brackets.. etc.

I'm sure there is a kit out there for it... but if ya got a welder or torch and some metal cutting tools and a drill.. you should be able to throw something together pretty easilly.

I haven't looked at the price difference on an alternator with tach drive vs one without lately but I don't think it's huge.
It would bug me to see a tractor without a working tach, but I like to know how many hours it's clocking..... I'm probably not the only one.
Something to consider if you thought you might sell the tractor down the road.

Until I had my own Ford tractors a few years ago, I have never run one with a working tach or hour meter. Gramps old 641 and International 504 never worked in my life time and the old Farmalls never had any and I never missed them. Now, I am constantly setting my RPMs to 540 shaft speed and watching exactly where I am and how many hours I have ticked off. I guess it's all about perspective.

Well... I been running tractors and working on'em with my dad since about 5 years old and I'm 40 now so I rarely look at the tach anyway. Just got an ear for it I reckon. Thanks for all the responses. If my dad were alive he'd kick me for askin' a question I should know off the top of my head from his teachin'. I wish I knew half what that man forgot before he passed.
