Ford 201 disc questions

Hi all,
I came across a Ford 201 disc this weekend.
Blue paint looks fair, bearings are tight, discs not broken or chipped, all the disc scrapers are there. This is a 10 foot wide machine - cat. 1 hitch (4 gang, 8 discs per gang)and is adjustable for the angle.
Questions: Was this a good machine? Would my 3000 lift it and pull it? Any idea as to the value?
Thanks for any and all responses.
Jerry

Ford called it a FLEXO-HITCH. They're good discs. I bought one just as you describe with 32 discs about 5 yrs ago, paid $450. I'm pulling it with an Oliver 1655 so it is no sweat. I think a 3000 could handle it in most conditions but it would be at the limit, especiallly in soft plowed ground. You might need a little weight added to the front end/wheels. I know I wouldn't want to try it behind my Ford 2000, a 4000 would be better.

According to the owners manual they could be equipped with either white metal bearings or something called "anti-friction" bearings. Mine has the white metal bearings with 2 grease fittings per bearing. There was a chunk out of one of the bearing halves but I've been using it like that 50-100 acres per year with no problems so far. I've worn down the front cutaway discs they now need replace, they look like 18" blades.

Does anyone know what the "anti-friction" bearings were? Were they sealed ball bearings with no grease fittings? Were they any good? The picture in the book isn't too clear.

Another question. Are any of you familiar with a Ferguson 3-pt model 22 disk with white metal bearings? I have one with 24 blades that I've used a lot behind the 2000 but the bearings are getting shot even though I keep them greased. It could be from running it in soft somewhat sandy soil. The bearing halves and spools are still available from Agco/MF but they cost an arm and a leg, maybe close to $100 for each piece, so X8 it wouldn't pay to replace all. Is there a cheaper source for these parts or some other way to repair it? The bearings are so worn that some of the blades are rubbing on the frame. I'm using it again about 50-100 acres per year.

I bought that disc last night. On the phone, but I keep my word. $300 This one has the sealed ball or roller bearings. I may cut it down as it's a bit wide for my deer trails. Take one blade off each gang. Try looking at shoupparts.com for the bearings for your Ferguson disc.
I bought new bearings for my present disc a few years ago for I think about $16 each including shipping. They were the cast iron type with the spool and two half shells.

Good luck with the disk. If you don't have the 201 operator's manual and need something I can scan the pages and send to you as email attachments or maybe put up on Photobucket or other website. The whole book is 16 pages.

The 10' disk is unique from all the others (6½', 7½' and 8½') in that the frame is wider. The bearing hangers are different for the ball bearing disk. Some day I would like to find a disk with the ball bearings and try to switch mine over. I hope you can still get the bearings if you need them, they should be cheaper than the cast iron pieces. The 10' disk could have been set up either Cat1 or Cat2 hitch. Mine has Cat1 lower pins but Cat2 toplink, and the hitch is wide like a Cat2. I guess someone was mixing and matching.

How long ago did you get those parts from Shoup? And what was the make of that disk? It seems like Shoup has cleaned out a lot of the old stuff from the catalog in recent years. Maybe I will give them a call or email.

I am going to pick it up one evening next week.
The disc I have now is older - maybe from the 50s or 60s?
Tag on it says Tractor Tools Inc.
I put the new bearings in it about 5 years ago.
One thing I like to do is to try to find a hard copy manual for most every implement I own. So I will be watching Ebay and the like for an original.
In the meantime, if it's not too much trouble, I'd be grateful for a scanned copy of the manual.
Address is ultradogmn@yahoo.com
Thanks
Jerry

Mark, Jerry - thanks
I did some looking in the archives last night.
I think it's a flex disc. The pins that your lower lift arms hook to are mounted to a frame that allows the disc to float better. Or such was Ford's idea.
Anyone have a notion of it's value?

As jhill52 says, a bit light, but they work nicely in ground that has been worked regualrly (like a garden). I had one just like you're looking at- pulled it with my 4600 in Dad's garden, but wasn't enough to make the 4600 work at all. Moved it a couple times with my Jubilee- mad e thefront end light, but lifted it OK. YOur 3000 should be a good match for it.

I have a ford 3pt disc. Mine is a 7ft and I pull it behind both a 641 and a 3000. I have disced probably 500 acres with it over the years and it has held up good. They are a little light and need weight to penetrate in tough ground.
