Hello, I am looking at a Woods RM306 5 ft finish mower , probaly around 15 years old but in very good condition. ( stored inside , newer blades and drive belt). It was used by an older gentlmen to mow a large open part of his lawn using a 8n to pull it. The mower has not been used for three years and was stored inside.Does any one have any experiance with this type of mower. I have always had good luck with woods stuff. I want to put it behind my Ford 4000 and mow some open areas behind my out buildings and some walking paths. The price is $475 which is not as scary as the $1500-1600 that I have been seeing with new versions

Dan,

I had a RM305, 5 footer, with the chains in front.
It was 20 years old. Stored inside, well used but not abused. Mowed about 6 acres a week with it. Just sold it for $550.

Dan,

If I"m not mistaked, the Woods RM-306 is a 6" mower, not a 5.....Atleast my RM-306 is 6".
I use it with a Ford 4000 (64 model) and the only thing I don"t like is the fact that it rides on the 3 point all the time. Makes it scalp when the tractor rear dips into a low spot, and it cuts real high when rear goes over a high spot. Excellent mower though.

Good Luck!
Tommy D.

I, too, have a Woods RM-306 and have it on a Jubilee with limiter chains. Works fine and the 6' width speeds cutting up, but I also get problems with scalping that I don't get with the 5' Woods belly mower on my Cub. Have you looked into the front wheels for the RM-306 or the front roller? Both are available, I think, from Woods and I wondered if either was good at reducing scalping.

I was looking at the manual from woods and it claims the rooler will stop scalping . I think i will try one on this mower.

If you get that roller, let us (me) know how it works. I think I will check on the prices, too.

Mine has chains that attach to the front of the mower and up to the top link on the tractor. Do you have those?

Your Right ! I WAS ONLY OFF BY A FOOT!....ha

I double checked it is a 6 foot mower , which makes me like the deaL even more.I got a manual from woods web site and have been reading at work. Woods claims that all the parts are still available.Sounds like this will work fine for what I want and is a lot cheaper than the new versions.

Thanks for pointing that out

Dan

Can you narrow your 4000 enough so that the rear wheels are not outside the cutting path? It looks to me like I can only get my 961 to 68 inches outside to outside (54" center to center).
