Recently, I bought a 7710 Ford FWA with a cab at an auction. Got it really cheap. Seems to run nice, the cab is a little ratty looking. I think it needs an upholstry kit. Also needs new tires.
Anybody out there have one of these beasts. What are the good and bad points? I'm going to take it out for its maiden voyage plowing this fall. Any input appreciated.

I hope you like yours as much as I do mine. I've got a 7600, 7610, and a 7710 (all very similar). The 7710 I have is a real work horse, had it for 4 years now. I put twice as many hours on it as the other 2 7XXX tractors and my other 3 tractors combined. Planning to sell 1 each of the non 7XXX tractors each year and replace with 7XXX series. That way I can afford to inventory a lot more parts like water pumps, clutches, etc. (I know I am going to buy a water pump, clutch, and rear tire every year, now I don't know for which unit (have since every year since 1984))

Nothing especially Mickey Mouse about any of the systems. Economical parts and easy to work on. My 7710 works almost every day. Can't speak to plowing, I haven't used a set in 5 years. Only real 'weaknesses' I have seen are 1. the a/c and heat are a little under powered, especially with R134a, 2. front axle is prone to fatigue cracks at the bolt holes but I do a lot of loader work (I scabbed a piece of rail car spring over the front of the axle to reinforce. Clutch failure was the only real problem (and all clutches fail eventually), it ripped the hub completely out of the clutch disc. I had one custom built with a solid slab steel core.

I also have an '85 7710 FWD. Cab upholstry is getting pretty ratty now, replaced the seat this spring, and the heater is weak. It always has been weak. Otherwise, it is a good solid tractor. Never had any trouble with the ZF front axle, except seals. Biggest problem was the hydraulic pump at 5500 hours. But that was after heavy use, and probably some poor maintenance many years ago. Clutches do wear out, but that depends a lot on the foot. Loaders are hard on clutches. I would think that if the centers are torn out of the clutch, repeatadly, the dual power will soon follow. At least I know a guy that tore clutches out of his 7710's every year, and he's rebuilt his dual power twice now. Congrats on the purchase, hope you enjoy as much as I do. I know I will never part with mine.

My clutch slipped a little when I bought it, dual power was weak on the low side. I blew the clutch on a power up with the disc mower, just exploded. Guy that builds my clutches uses steel slab pressure plates, imprts asbestos faces, puts twice as many spings in the pressure plates and replaces the throw out bearing with industrial ones (which are greasable). Dual power improved after giving it it's 5000 hour hydraulic pump replacement but is still 20 psi light in low. Plan to remove the unit completely when I do my winter maint on the tractor.
