I have a 1971 Ford 2000 with 1408 hours. Gasoline,4 speed forward ,1 reverse, kept in my barn. My Dad bought this tractor when it was only 2 years old and the previous ownerused it to clean snow off of his long driveway. From what I see this is extremely low hours for a tractor like this. Everthing works on it . I am wanting to sell it and want some input as to a FAIR price for it. Thank You

Hi Keith,

It sounds like you have a really nice Ford 2000. I searched for a good used 70's model Ford 2000 or 3000 for about two years before I finally found a tractor I was willing to spend several thousand dollars for.

I would say, based on your description of your tractor, that it might be advertised somewhere in the range of $5000 to $7000 depending on the market in your area. (Just my opinion)

If you find someone that really wants it, they will pay your price. These tractors are very popular with small acreage owners.

I paid $7650.00 for a 1983 Ford 2310 with 472 hours on it. Plus, I got a practically new 5-foot rotary mower with it. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

Keith,
Sounds like a nice tractor that would be hard to replace if you are going to need one in a few years.
However, I just sold a one owner 3 cylinder 2000, no Power steering or live PTO. Tires were rough and it had the usual dents and dings. It ran well. Went for $3900. Could probably have gotten a few more dollars but it was time to go.
Just depends on the buyer and seller making the deal.
Good luck

Keith, I was at a household auction this spring and saw a Ford 3000 in similar shape to your tractor go. The neighbor wanted the tractor and started the bidding at $8000. You could have heard a pin drop as the auctioneer tried to get an advance on that bid. (It sold for the $8000) The 3000 will usually bring more money than a 2000 and $8000 is an unusually high price for either tractor. My opinion (guaranteed to be worth what you are paying for it) is that you should be in the $6000 range + or - $500 depending on how fast you want to sell the tractor. Hope this helps. Dan J

Keith; With that "LOW" hours on it, I would assume that the paint/tires/tranny/motor/ect---are just about like new, right??? How does $4000 sound to you?? If it has PS, that would be a big plus!

I suppose someone would jump on it for 4000. Yes it does have power steering. BUT the way I look at it, let's say a person could buy a 1949 8n for about that and then have the rings on one piston go out a spend a grand on getting it fixed or let's say a person could spend about that on a 1953 Jubilee and then have the 3 pt hydrualic lift go out and spend 1400 to get that fixed. I know of the preceeding two things to happen . The way I look at it my tractor is like new and should bring more than that or I'll keep it and park it beside my new Kubota. I see 50 year old tractors selling for 3500 to 4000 and some for more with a wornout bushog attached to it.

I belive you have failed to take into account that the older tractors are now collector series. Same as a 1950 Ford sedan brings higher price than say a 1972 Ford car. The modern thousand series is still a working tractor. Price range of this tractor is 3K to 5K.

A fellow pulled into my driveway to look at my "for sale" tractor and was driving a 1965 Ford 2000 with 4400+ hours on it and said he had two people wanting his tractor for just under 4000. He could not believe the condition of mine and the LOW hours. Does not low hours and the life left in the tractor go hand in hand?

You requested an opinion on a fair dollar amount to ask for your low hour tractor. If we all assume it looks as good as the hours suggest it should maybe it is worth $6000-8000. The value on your 40 year old tractor is subjective to what any buyer wants to pay, if your marketing to a collector, you might just get your money. If your marketing it to a guy like me who intends to use it, about $4500 is all I guy like me wants to pay. It's your tractor, you can ask whatever you want for it. I can't place value on a tractor that has obvious sentimental value, nor could I offer you a fair price unless you tell me what your after to begin with.

Good Luck. I suggest you just keep it. There will be a day when you'll want Dad's old tractor and a piece of your past.

I agree. You cant put a price tag on sentimental value.

As soon as my Dad said the tractor was mine I put it up for sale to buy a Kubota. Just could not understand why a tractor that is 50 years old that someone will use to bushog weeds could possibly be worth more than a "32" year old tractor that has some real life left in it.

Keith,

According to the 2003 Used Tractor Price Guide your '71 Ford 2000 (You didn't mention gas or diesel) price range is from $2790 (gas-poor condition) to a high of $5220 (Diesel-premium condition), premium condition is defined in the book as being a tractor in good running condition with no mechanical problems, with straight sheet metal not needing a paint job, but not nesessarily in show condition. At the age your tractor has reached the number of hours showing won't affect the price, yours wouldn't be the first to have the hour meter replaced or wound back to lower hours. That's the "book" prices, hope that helps, good luck.

Mike

Mike and whoever, The tractor is Gasoline and in premium condition. The meter is original and has not been replaced. We bought the tractor when it was 2 years old. If my post were re-read I did not mention anyplace what I thought the tractor was worth. Just wanted some idea of what I would be a FAIR price to ask for it. Was thinking 5500 to 5900. The End

Keith,
Looks like you've got enough wiggle room to make the deal if someone pulls out the book. Good luck.

Mike

That just depends on what kind of 50 year old tractor your talkin about.Ford 2000 is not a popular tractor where I live because it has about 30 hp.My price guide says 5,430 on the newest 2000
made in premium condition. However,I would say that your tractor is worth about $6000,but no more.
