1974 Ford 3000, gas, 8 speed trans???(4 high, 4 low). How full is the reservoir supposed to be? I am a complete novice, so please give me an idea on what to look for. I'm guessing that the fill cap is the cap just to the upper-right of the high/low shift lever. Should the fluid level be all the way to the top? Also, what type of fluid should I put in? Does it hurt to mix a new fluid with the existing, even if they are of different types? I have no idea what is in there as I recently purchased the tractor.

I would not run your new tractor without first
doing a complete fluid change. When doing mine
I found "mystery pieces" dont know what the are
but everything works. As for your fluid levels
there is a small plug on the right hand side that fluid will come out of when the correct level is reached on the tranny.

Thanks for the help. Where is this plug located and what does it look like?

Also, does the tranny fluid fill the rear end, 3-point hydraulics and power steering, or is there seperate fills for each?

One last thing, what fluid should I use?

Thanks!

Sitting in the seat to your right hand side.
there are two one for the tranny and one for the rear end they are npt type pipe thread plugs maybe 3/8 or half inch square on the head
they are on the side of these housings.the tranny holds 13.2 quarts the rear
25.2. your FNH dealer can tell you the type. I pretty sure you can buy it at wall mart.

When you squat down on the right side of the foot rest and look at the tranny there will be a small square shaped screw that fills the level indicator hole. The same is true for the rear end.
Fill the tranny from the cap covered hole near the shifter and the rear end from the larger cap covered hole on the top of the rear end. Use only the FORD RECOMMENDED FLUIDS. I get mine at the NH dealer and they will know the correct fluids to use. Good Luck with a fine machine.
