Does anyone know what would have been the standard - ie factory installed - loader on a 335?
I understand the 335 was the 75-83 replacement for the 3400 and has the same front axle etc. Would a 335 loader have changed from a 3400 loader? Would it work on a 4000 sized tractor without a lot of refit?
I have a Ford 772 loader that I hope to put on a tractor some day. Would the 335 loader be heavier? Better?
I was offered the loader off a 335 yesterday and have been mulling over whether it's worth selling off my 772 and making the change.
Picture shows a 3400 with what I assume is a factory loader. What is that model? And was the 3400 the same?
Thanks for any and all advice.

Cant tell you for sure if it would fit without mods... More likely to fit a 4000 than a 2/3000 I think, looking at my sales literature. But this is an '84/85 Industrial Buyer's Guide, so it has the 340B, 540B, etc., not the 335. Says the 340B is 'available as a complete tractor, tractor-loader, or backhoe-loader. ....with series 745 loader and series 765 backhoe.' Mounts and frame look to be significantly stronger than a 772. Rated for 2800 lb. lift, 4500 lb. breakout. 340B loader looks similar to, but not quite the same as the one in your pic.

After a little more looking and reading, it may be that the 335 is closer to the 3400 than the 340B. 340B has a 9000# capacity box-beam front axle, with a bolster more like a 4000 ag than a 3000 ag. So the loader from a 335 may be more likely to fit a 2/3000 than a 4000 (without mods). Time for a trip to look and measure?

The 3400 used a 730 loader with a 2240 lbs lift capacity. In my '74 Buyer's Guide, the 730 is listed as fitting a 2000, 3000, 4000 SU, 4410 woods, and 3400 - but not a 4000. We had a 4000 with a 735 loader (boxed cover over the pump instead of the tubes). I also have a '79 or so Buyer's Guide, and it lists the 730 fitting a 2600, 3600, 4100, and 4600 SU. They also list the 340 as having the 745 loader with a 2500 lbs capacity, but don't mention the 745 anywhere else. The 745 looks like a 735, but the specs show it has a bigger pump.
The 772 loader is listed as fitting the 2000-7000 with a 2500 lbs capacity.

Thanks Mark.
You're always a good source of info on these boards.
Do you have any info on the breakout/max lift on a 772? That would tell us a lot right there.
Yeah, the 3400/335 is basically a 3000/3600. So the 335 loader would fit the smaller ag models easily. Might break the front axles out from under them but that's another story.
I'm trying to hoodwink Kenny in to buying my 772.
Then I could afford this other loader.
The trouble with this 335 loader is it's 150 miles from here. So if a guy is going to go look and measure he may as well bring a pocket full of cash and the trailer.

Great info. Thanks!
According to your specs it doesn't look like any gain in capacity in going to the 730 in fact it is a drop. The 730 looks much heavier than the 772. Hmmm

The 730/735 is an industrial loader, and our local dealer sold them almost exclusively - not many Fords around with ag loaders. If you look at the 730, see how much welding has occured around the oval torque tube connecting the arms behind the bucket. I can only remember seeing one loader ever that hadn"t been patched and repatched. Still, it is a great loader but I don"t know how it will mount up to your 4000 front bolster. A 735 would be best.

You'd have to have a -good- pump to get the full 2500# out of a 772. If yours has a front pump, it may well lift that much. The one I had would't, running off the 4600's remotes... but my 4600 has a few hours on it, too. You run out of traction with a ton on the front anyway. Kills 8-ply tires, too. My next ones are gonna be 12-ply, even though that will bite my checkbook.
I had figured you were gonna put the 772 on the 3/4000 when you sold it...

I will snap some pictures and obtain the model number from my Ford 335 loader this weekend for you.

Great information lfc. Thanks a lot. The pages are obviously scanned from some manual - what manual?
I saved the photos for future reference. You can see things better if you increase the text size in your browser.
I think I have my 772 sold to My pal Kenny. He's thinking about putting it on his 64 2000 light industrial.
I still wonder if the 730 was standard equipment on a 335. Anyone know for sure?
Thanks to all on this great board.

Glad to help! Hope it makes your decision on which loader to choose easier. If you can get the 730 to fit you would have a better loader than the 772.
The scans are from a 1974 Buyer's Guide. It is all specs and simple pictures aimed at munucipalities, but it shows all of the ag and industrial models along with the Ford attachments (flail mowers, rear blades, snow plows, etc). I have a simialr catalog from 1979 or so that shows basically the same pages for the loaders but updates the model numbers.

I have a Ford 3500 Industrial Tractor with a 19-451 loader on it
