I own a 1959 TO35 Deluxe. It's in better than good working condition, on a scale of poor, fair, good, very good, excellent.

To the question, how large of a bush hog would you use on it if it were yours ? The old tractor starts runs well, all the hydraulics (3pt) works as it should. I just don't want to overload the old boy.

I'm can weld, and am a decent enough wrench to keep stuff running.
What should I be on the look out for when I check out a used bush hog?

I want to reclaim some land that is over grown with Russian olive, 1" cedars, multi-flora rose etc .Would you think a larger 3pt finish mower to be too small ?

What say ye, great and knowledgeable Ferguson tractor gurus :?: :?:

6 FT. is about as big as you want to go and it will handle most heavy grass in first (high). The mower will stick out past the rear wheels a little but you can reverse the wheels by turning them inside out and swapping sides then let the front end out to match the back. It's not necessary but this way anything the front wheels clear then so will the mower. I also use a 6ft. finish mower. If your 59 is not a 2 stage then an override clutch should be attached to the PTO so the hog won't push you into something.

Seems to me a 5' mower is just about right. I've had a 6' mower on mine, but it was hard to keep the front end on the ground.

I agree with Boss Hog. I tried a six footer on mine and didn"t like the light front end. I would go with a five footer.

A finish mower will be too light for what you want to cut. You will need a bush hog type. You probably could use a 6 footer, but as noted that will make the front very light and if you have hills or have to trailer it, that gets dicey. The safest choice is a 5 foot bush hog type.

The light front end will make it steer like power steering. If it's dicy then put some weight on the front. If you want to spend all day cutting 5 acres then buy a lawn "tractor" more commonly known as a lawn mower.Just my 2 cents but I'm on flat ground.
