alternator pulley for TO-30 conversion to 12v

Just bought a standard kit for the 12v conversion of this tractor, but the alternator pulley isn't wide enough for the belt on my tractor. Have seen others raise this issue, but no resolution. Has anyone found a 2-1/2 inch diameter pulley that takes the 7/8 inch wide belt. The old generator pulley is larger diameter than on the kit and would probably not give high enough rpm. Need bore of .671 to fit alternator.

My TE 20 has a Delco alternator instaled by former owner. He used a belt to fit the alternator pulley and yes it ran deep in the groove of the water pump and crank pulley. Seemed to work ok for the short period of time i ran it.

At this point maybe just run the narrow belt and try it. If it works then it works.

My belt is larger than most of the ones I read about, although it seems to be the correct one for the TO30. So I need much larger than a 5/8 pulley. Hard to find anywhere. Need a pulley for a 22mm belt with a 17mm bore in metric.

My 12v conversion kit came with a 5/8" pulley. I bought a 5L400W belt at Napa, and it works great. A previous owner installed an even narrow belt before I bought it; I could never keep that tight enough for effective charging, with either the generator at first or the alternator after the conversion. My experience says you don't need the full 7/8", but don't get too narrow.

I'm with Duner Wi i have the three wire Alt.hook up on my TE20 and i used the original pulley i have no issues with charging even at idle speeds.

With respect to the idea of using a 3 wire system and the original larger generator pulley, is there a way to do this with my "1 wire alternator"? It has a rubber plug over 2 terminals that seem to be part of the regulator. Can I use them somehow to make this a 3 wire system? Or might it be possible to jsut use the system as one wire as long as I rev up the engine temporarily to energize the alternator to get it started.

Good question i got a one wire alt. from ebay once that i could not get working came with brackets belt ever thing but could not get it to work maybe i was doing something wrong then i found out how to wire it with 3 wires and it worked. They install something that's a self exciter that's why it needs to be revved up to charge. Pull off the rubber boot & look for the two tabs if there then yes.

I bought the correct pulley for the 5/8" wide belt from Genesee Products (www.geneseeproducts.com)a few years ago
for under $20 and the the guy gave me the correct instructions for removing the old one and putting on the new.

Are the tabs marked 1 and 2? #2 tab goes to the theaded post, #1 tab goes to the key switch the post goes to the + side of the ammeter the - side goes to the key switch but now you need a 3 prong key switch one that has lights or accessory (acc.) so the alt. can be turned off if not the tractor will always run. The alternator will keep putting out power to the distributor.
