I have a TE 20 tractor and I would like to intall a temp guage on it. I have a mech gauge. Is there anywhere on the engine to put my sending unit? Thanks Ivan

I did this on a 9N. A trip to Home depot and the plumbing section will get you a copper "T" fittting to install into the upper rad hose. Your sender screws into the "T".

Ivan if you have a Ferguson TE 20, TO 20, TO 30 parts book look on page 12, numbers 57 and 58 those are the washer and plug that goes into the water neck where the temperature bulb is suppose to attach before you can attach it you need to get a "short" adapter so the bulb has enough room to fit in there. The size of that adapter is 5/8" NF and as short as you can find I am fairly certain. If you haven't purchased the water temp gauge try to find one that has a 48" cord on it. That is just a little longer than you need and anything longer is a waste as you will have to coil it up quite a bit more than the 48 inch one.

Does the TE20 have provision for a temperature sender bulb in the thermostat housing, similar to the TEA20?

Yes it does and after reading the other posts I found it and remover the plug, No to find an adapter if all else fails it will get tapped out tomorrow. Thanks to everyone that helped me out. Ivan

Bob the sending bulb does not go in a thermostat housing it goes in the water neck. I am guessing the TE 20 is the same as the TO 20 where as the thermostat goes into the upper radiator hose. Richard

Ivan, I think you will be much happier if you will find the correct type of extension plug rather than trying to make something fit. I know when I was looking for my extension I saw one on ebay in the water neck that was for sale so I was lucky to get it at a rather inexpensive cost and after it arrived took it out and put it in my TO 30 and because it is the correct length the bulb fit in there perfectly and the nut tightened down just right. I have only seen two other waternecks that had the extension and I got one of them and sold that extension. Now I wish I had looked at the hardware store for an exact replacement as I am sure they would be there but now mine is installed and not interested in taking it apart.

I am going to try and find something tomorrow. I have to travel an hour to get to town so I will see what I can find. I have an extension that has 3/8 NPT threads on the male end so I am going to take that along and see if I can get one with the correct threads. If I can catch the right person in the auto parts store they may have what I need.

TED 20's ;that is kerosene/ petrol models have a unique thermostat housing that has provision for the sender unit , modern replacements for the TEA straight petrol tractor have this threaded port blanked off by a bolt, OEM ref no.200781 , Sparex part no.S.42732

I am going to check at the auto patrs store tomorrow. I have one that has 3/8 NPT threads on the male end and the other end fits my sending unit. I will take this along and try to find one with the correct threads on the male end

All I did on my TO20 was I drilled the back of the water neck out because where the bulb was longer it hit the back of it. I was careful and drilled it out and didn"t mess up the threads in there and screwed mine right in...no problems at all.

After searching all over town today I came up empty handed on finding the adaper that I needed. So when I got home I tapped the hole out with a 3/8 pipe tap and screwed my adapter in and added the guage. Jod is all done with no leaks. The hole that is left when you take the bolt out is the size needed for a 3/8 NPT. Thanks for all the help Ivan
