MF 35 3 point question

When I mow with my MF 35 it's often on fairly steep hills. Sometimes after I go up and down a hill a couple of times the 3 point will temporarily stop working.

When I go back to mowing on the level it starts working again after a short time.

Is this normal?

i would say no!

have you checked your lift/transmission oil level

with the tractor parked on level ground and having been setting for at least 30 mins for the oil to run down.

have the lift arms in the up position with no load (as my old fergy, if you have a load on the lift arms they will go down in a few mins).

that method should give you the correct oil level in the sump.

have you changed oil lately in the sump, if so did you use the correct oil, not some low budget oil from the auto parts store.

what is the correct oil for your tractor?

my old Fergy takes GL-1 oil for the rear sump
6 gals.

I've checked the oil level, and it seems fine.

I got the fluid from the local MF dealer, but don't remember what was on the label. It had the MF logo on the containers, so it wasn't cheap stuff.

Come to think of it, I changed the fluid in 1995, so it's been a while.

Sounds like the fluid is just over on one side away from the intake on the pump. How steep is the slope? Can you mow in the other direction and see if that helps?
It would have to be pretty low on fluid or a very steep slope. I think the intake is on the left side of the tractor, is the tractor tilted so the right side is down?

Have you checked the hydraulic filter on the pump? You can access the filter by taking off the round cover on the left side of the tractor with the PTO shift handle in it. If most of the filter is completely plugged up except the very top it may not get any fluid in when the tractor is tilted.

Honestly - I had no clue there was a filter. That means it's never been changed.

Sounds like that might be a good place to start.

1st pic is the pump with the hydraulic filter removed and split
down, note.... the pump does not need to be removed.
2nd pic shows the position of the filter in the trans housing
3rd pic is the groove in the pto gear which the lever/fork has to go
back into.
If you think the trans housing needs washed out and need further
help just come back and ask, I have more picures of that procedure.
good luck....Sam

I have to35's and am wondering if mine have filters. Does anyone know at what year the filters were added?
