It has a 4 cylinder overhead valve, 5 speed trans. grey, some red, and some rust. The serial number looks like: A2552891, if I read it right. The tag is on dash above the steering wheel. The TR3 engine was around 100HP at 5,500 RPM, whereas the Fergy engine is only 28 HP at 2,600 RPM, so it is not stressed. It is a great engine with very few faults! If it is a UK built Fergy, look on the right side of the transmission for a casting date: "6 7 3" = 6 July 1953. [Reply]  [No Email]
cskent 08-19-2012 19:40:02 107.8.82.28 Report to Moderator	Re: ferguson model and year ID help please in reply to cskent, 08-19-2012 06:25:49   I think you are on the right track, the tag is hard to read, oxidized, the engine kind of looked like the one from my '60 TR3 car, which was a standard. The top of the transmission looked like an "S" in the top plate, and I thought it had to be a 5. All more clear now. Is this the same engine as some British cars had in the 50/ early 60's ? Are there common bad points to look for when thinking of buying? No pics to post, but straight metal, one new rear tire, other 3 are maybe 50%, gas tank very clean, is all there, not running, lights are there, (only one gauge, but one blank in other gauge hole?) 3 point all there, steering seems good. The guy picked up a Ford Jubilee, I was told, and parked the Ferguson. He's not around to ask anymore. I Had a 8N ford and a MF 165 gas, liked both, just never worked on a TO20, so seeking opinoins. I am pretty sure the "5" is the "S" position for "Start". The serial number plate under the steering wheel usually starts with a "TO", "TE", or some such, then followed by some numbers telling you the year of production. "TO" being Tractor Overseas, Made in Detroit and "TE" being Tractor England, made in England. Pics are nice also. [Reply]  [No Email]
