TO-20 alternator conversion

Anyone have any good pics of a TO-20 alternator conversion? I'm having trouble finding a good way to mount the alternator, the generic brackets just don't work so I've been trying to build one, it'd be nice to see someone else's ideas.

By "alternator conversion" do you simply mean hooking up a Delco one wire alternator to charge the battery? I have one of these on my tractor and it works great. It mounted up remarkably straight to the factory generator bracket on my TO-35. I did have to remove the supplied alternator fan so it would clear the top bracket. This should be okay, as the alternator recieves plenty of airflow from the engine fan. I can get you the O'Reilly alternator part number I used if you need it.

The alternator and wiring aren't the hard part, The TO-20 generator had a different mounting system and there just doesn't seem to be an easy way to get the Delco bolted up.

when i get home from work i will send you my photos of my to20 delco conversion. you will need to go get a chrome alternator bracket from your local auto parts store. it is a curved one that is slotted.should be in the chrome hot rod accessory isle. will get those pics when i get home.

John, could you post those photos on this site as I'm sure more of us would benefit from your engineering. Thanks, Glenn

ok i am finally back here at the computer. i cant seem to find where i put my pictures of my alternator conversion that i took after it was done. they may be on my other computer downstairs.if nothing else i can take more pictures when i go to the country. i have did my to20 and my te20 both and they are charging just fine. the te20 had the lucas gen so i had to do it a little different. my to20 still uses the original belt. the te20 uses a narrower belt now.what i started with a was kit off ebay for a ford tractor. the kit was for a later model than the 2n,8n,or 9n.i used one bracket and had to make one bracket and buy one of those curved universal hot rod chrome brackets.i am by no means a good fabricater but it is working just fine. give me some time and i will try to get all my info for you guys.i know i looked evreywhere for a kit for my to20 and never found one. the only real problem was a i had to grind a notch in my curved bracket to let the governor arm move freely.

Well, got it bolted up finally and charging. I like a little wiring to tidy things up a little but it works much better than the old generator. The hot rod adjusting bracket worked fine, $11 at Auto Zone. It is close to the governor but it clears. I will probably drill another hole to shorten it a little and it will look and fit nicer. The bottom bracket isn't pretty but it's hard to see unless your under the tractor, then that is the least of your worries! Thanks for the info.

I saved a picture of a conversion kit, showing the brackets.
If you send me an email, I can send you the picture.

Hi Dennis I am also trying to hook up a Delco alternator to my TO 20 I was wondering if you would be willing to send me some pictures of your bracket as well. Thank you!
