TO-35 - Want to Add Rear Hydraulic Outlets

I want to add external rear outlet(s) hydraulics onto my TO-35 to operate a push-pull RAM I'm having put on my 1Row McCormick PTO Potato Harvester. I would like to do this simply and as cost effective as possible. The main thrust is for the RAM to "pull-up" the diggers head out of the ground and keep it up, if it can equalize and hold the down depth when I want to dig.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what and where on the tractor I need to do what, and all that is needed, or what I might do...?

Thanks.

To do this you are better using a Spool Valve for each of the Rams, it can be done using a change over valve but that makes it unnecessarily complicated for the operator. There are plenty of oil pressure ports and there is an oil return under the seat. If you use a Spool Valve, this fits onto the front right corner of the Top Cover. The spool valve will feed and return through this points.Only with a Spool Valve can you do what you wish in this case, successfully and easily. If you do it any other way there is a possibility that because there is no neutral on the Lever and if you forget to shut off the hydraulic power you will be constantly blowing the Safety Valve which will wear and reduce your operating pressure.Only a Spool Valve will do this easily. MF used one on their Potato Harvester and some loaders. If you can't get hold of a genuine Massey-Ferguson Spool Valve, look for one from a Loader, just make sure that you get the correct configuration of the Spools. If you have double acting Rams then you need a double acting Spool valve. Some loader valves have one of each in the Valve Block, some are both double acting. You cant use a single acting Valve with a double acting ram or vice-versa. A rough guide to know what is what with these Valves is look for how many pipe connections are on top of each Spool (that is what the the Lever operates inside) if there are two then it should be right for your purpose. One connection to each connection on the Ram. If it only has one connection on the Spool then it will only operate a single acting Ram,i.e. one way under power and the other way returns under gravity. I can send you the pictures that show you where to connect and return the oil, do not use the oil filler for this as you will over-fill the transmission and it will get into the Clutch. It must return to the correct place. I can send you the correct drawing for the pipework when you tell me exactly what you are using for the Rams and the valve If you can get hold of the genuine MF type, all this is simplified for you and will fit easily. Let me know if you need anymore info on this and I will send it, email me at the address below..John(UK)[email protected]
