trans TE-20

Bringing a TE-20 back to life. I"m new to Ferguson. On the sift pattern, what does the "S" stand for and what was it"s purpose? Thank you for the information.

That is the starter switch. To start the engine you push the gear shift into that S slot and it engages the starter without the tranny engaged to provide a safety feature. The TE 20 I'm working on will not go into that slot and haven't figured out why yet. It has a turn switch added on to engage the starter. HTH

Tora stephen, When they were new you did have to lift the lever, but
due to wear in the selector step , not many left that need lifted
anymore!. If you ever have the lid off the gearbox and look at the
reverse/start selector you will see the faint remains of a raised step
so the lever needed lifted to engage the starter.

Thanks for all the help. Went back out and checked the shifter. It will not go straight forward/up, nor will it pull up to go forward, but, it will go forward into the S slot when moved slightly to the left. About 1/2 way back toward the 3/4 gate. Also this tractor has a key start switch, might not be orginal. Thanks again, Don

That is because the previous operators have never lifted the lever and dragged it across the gate and worn the safety step away. But that is the way it was made, lift the lever.John(UK
