I was replacing the head gasket on my TEA20 ferguson which had one damaged head stud on the upper thread and another 2 that were a little too far coroded. I purchased some new studs from sparex, installed them and proceded to tighten the cylinder head down in stages, with intent to obtain the required final torque of 65-65 ft lb. When the torque reached around 50-55 ft lb the aftermarket studs began to stretch and the torque reading would not go higher. I backed the head off and replaced the studs with some old genuine ferguson ones from a spare block a friend had, they all reached final torque figure without issue, it was most annoying, I was FURIOUS!! and to think that ferguson knew how to get it correct back in the 1950s but we cant make them now was dissapointing, I hope you fellow repairers do not have this happen to you, comments welcome, Matt.
