Further to my earlier query about missing Serial Number plate, I have the casting numbers on the transmission and rear axle centre housing. As best I can read the numbers they are G 9 H and G 3 H.
Can anyone tell me the casting dates?
Also, the engine number seems to be SF 22567 ELD. (D very faint)
The hydraulic lift judders when lifting, not too much but not smooth.
Graeme

If it was a Grey and Bronze then it would be 1957 as they only had that colour for one year before changing to corporate Red and Grey. Date of casting 9th August 1957 The Engine number confirms that and it is a Low Compression unit. Numbers cast into a housing, a lot do not mean anything and are for factory use only. Does not include dates of course. Hydraulics juddering only slightly is usually either a Sticking non-return Valve or a broken spring or both in the Side Chambers..John(UK)

John, Pretty sure it was a red and grey from the start.I don't understand the casting codes. G is 7th letter of the alphabet. H is the 8th letter. The number the day of the month? (Different to the casting codes on the TE/TO) My repair manual says the jerky lift remedy is to "remove the pump and examine the outlet valve seats and check for dirt or foreign material." This seems a major job. Can I email you for advice on checking the non-return valve or broken spring. Your bulletins are invaluable. Graeme

I did say it was a completely different numbering system to the TE20, why they changed it I don't know. On the Hydraulics, the Top Cover needs to come off and the Hydraulic Pump needs to come out to check the Valves. Although it is possible to check the Valves with the Pump in place, through the side covers. Depends on how much discomfort you will take...lol There are 4 Valve sets (one for each cylinder) they are held in the Pump with a Circlip and a Cap. Remove the Circlip and the Cap, you will need to screw in a bolt in the Cap, it is threaded for this purpose. With the Bolt ion place, pull the Cap out and then you can get at the Valves. The Top Cover may need re-setting and it is an excuse to remove it while you do this at the same time, but it isn't essential. if you just want to do the Pump. I don't mind if you do email me as a lot do this already. Just decide what you want to do and then let me know....John(UK)...ferguontractors@hotmail.com
