i have one. never have used it as i have been lead to believe it was discontinued due to safety concerns. if you had one would you use it???

More like nobody changed the wheal tread anymore for cultivating. And the big tractors one strong enough you could not drag. Used them for years and have a few now yet. Have not changed tread width since 68.

Now if it was sitting in my yard, I might use it to widen the tires for brush hogging the side of the hill.
Currently I neither have the tractor jack or the ability to hog the side of the hill. Safely.
I might actualy use it at the tractor show this year if I had one.

Sounds like someone was jealous of someone having one of these Jacks. I have never seen any safety problems listed for this jack. There are more than one type though. They did make a heavier duty one for the 35 and another for the 65. The 65 had longer lower link arms which required the jack altering, apart from the weight issue. The jack for the 20 /30 models could be used on the 35's but it was advisable to use a heavier type when the tractors were ballasted as the tractor could be really heavy. But if used correctly and on the model it was made for, there were no safety problems, just use it on a level hard surface...John(UK)..fergusontractorshotmail.com

"The jack for the 20 /30 models could be used on the 35's"
sounds like a safety issue right there if the jacks looked the same.

how would i determine if mine is for a 20/30 or a 35?

I think the 35 was the exact same as for the 20 & 30 and N series Fords. The heavier one had 2 different places to set the unit under tractor for the larger tractors and had or might still have one of those.

mine has a support for the front of the tractor. is that what you are referring to ?
i would post a pic of the jack but for some unknown reason the puter will not allow me to do so.

No not as bad as you think, the jacks would carry a std 35 without a problem. If they could carry a ballasted Grey tractor then they would carry an unballasted 35. The Jack made for the 35 didn't have "cups" that fitted around the rear axle housings, they had small "cups" that hooked onto the bottom end of the lower link arms it also had a narrower width bottom cross-bar. They interchanged with the earlier models on the Grey tractors..John(UK)

No, at the back end on the ones for the smaller tractors there is one spot to set under the lift arms but on the bigger ones there are 2 u shaped places for under the lift arms depending on tractor the one you use. I have the front part as well but usually did not use it. And to get a fine setting and without running the engine or to keep it from saging over weeks at a time doing repairs I would just use a plain old car bumper jack under the bar at the back that the ends were on that went in the lift arms.

Never seen or heard of one that hooked under the axle, all fit under the lift arms. First one I saw Uncle had for his TO30. made a copy, later bought a couple more.

On the Grey Tractors,on the old type, the front part "leans" against the rear edge of the Front Axle Carrier where it butts up to the Oil Pan and Cylinder Block, and the chain that runs between the front and rear parts prevents it moving or sliding out as you lift the tractor.
On the later type, it is the same but without the chain and the bottom of the front part has hardened steel spikes that dig into the floor to prevent it moving..John(UK)

This is what is causing the confusion, the one that fitted under the axle housings was the original type and most that you will see are like this. The one you have is the later type which is stronger and I do like it much better. I know that there are a lot of the original type around in the USA as I have had a lot of questions & pictures about them in the past.
This original type was introduced in about 1939 for the Ford-Ferguson type as you can see from the picture I posted.
For us here in the UK the new type came about when the FE35 was introduced to us in late 1956 but we also needed it because of the TEF Diesel as there were two batteries that fitted on the axle just where the "cups" fitted. There was also a battery on the FE35 Diesel that was in the same place.John(UK)

We used one many times when I was a kid.Do not know what kind you are talking about but am pretty sure the one we had was made by Ferguson and was very simple to use and never had any problems.
