Gas Tank Leak

After cutting grass this afternoon with the 56 that i thought was ready to work, I walked by and smelt gas and found my JB job and tank seal job didn't work. Anybody got a fix? Please no ivory soap fixes, something a little more permanent.

I have repaired a number of tanks using good old fibreglass cloth and resin. autobody stuff.
It will work, but the area must be clean and dry. Clean with a wire wheel (in a drill-or whatever) J.B weld might work also, but likewise must be clean. if there is even a hint of gasoline, dry or not, it will not stick.
Patched a dodge truck tank. it had rusted out in the middle where the tank was joined. filled a rip about four inches long by half inch wide with fibreglass cloth (two layers on the gap portion) was still holding well after five years. Cost about three dollars for material, and a measure of patience. Good luck.

I have had good results with gas tank patch kits from the auto parts houses.

Yes, I have an easy fix. Go buy that 35 you walked away from the other day. Looked like a nice tank on that one.....
Murphy's law says if you buy it, this one will never break anything again

Yeah Tony not even a week later and that bad decision came back and bit me!!Let's see gas was 74 bucks times 2= 148 plus 700 now it's not an El cheapo. Went and got the epoxy, looks like the JB that already failed, thanks Bruce. How's that ford treating you?

You are going a different direction anyway, but just FYI and for any others that are interested, JB Weld does not stop gas leaks for long. Gas will eat thru JB Weld eventually, especially if the hole is on the bottom and constantly sitting in gas. I know from experience.
