Steering Wheel Repair

Just started my second "bondo" job on yet another cracked and totally rusty old steering wheel.Around the entire circumference were cracks with chunks missing running down to the center.I've found a good way to fill the cracks and all you need is a set of dish washing gloves and a handful of bondo and squeeze into the cracks, then sand and apply a second if needed and spray with black paint . Hope the pics are ok.

Gosh 2. Your work bench looks better than my kitchen counter. Nice cabinets- did lyle custom cut that for you? The shipping must have been a killer.

I patched my 30's wheel with bondo too. This 40 has a wierd one, can't be original, it all has to come appart like your 35 I'm affraid...

My dad loves working with wood in his retirement so after a purchased a well cooked TE-20 from a barn fire he custom made a wooden steering wheel for me to fit over the ring. It looks great, now I just need to find a set of dog legs and finish the hood.

Well i could tell you all how i get by with murder But I'd be lying, this was to kill two birds with one stone, the saw marks and the bondo. The drawers were home made. The saw marks follow Lyle's post on the MF forum. The steering wheel is gonna take at least 3 coats since it's going under camera. Starting to wonder if it's worth 30 bucks or 3 coats at my age. Time is premo at going on 63!!
