Ongoing TE20 starting issues - FIXED

So, in the end, I cheated and got a mobile mechanic out to have a look. After about 10 minutes, the tractor was going, and I was showing how much of a newbie I am to engines!

The rewiring was good, with a good battery, I had the compression at 100psi. All I had wrong was when it was TDC, the rotor was on cylinder 2, not 1, so all the cables on the distributor cable were rotated anti clockwise by 1 place...duh!

Now she runs better than ever, and starts even with the crank handle first time and only 1/2 a stroke too!

Well done. Enjoy having a Fergy that runs reliably. None of us started out knowing it all. We all have needed the help of a pro at times. Even if they were cheap like me and kept picking the brains of others here on the forum.

KUDOS for posting the fix, most just won't admit if it was something simple and that is why the archives are full of suggestions and very few cures. What was the outcome with the fuel leak?

Hm, doesn't seem to be a problem, so not sure if that's going to bite me later, or if I was just misinterpreting a normal behavior.

Yeah, they say when you stop learning you"re 6 feet under... but I am not so sure about that, maybe they"re somewhere else learning something new and different.
