I recently posted regarding an oil leak from my carburettor and am greatful for the feed back. Once again John (UK) was correct in his diagnosis which was a non functioning air breather valve. This resulted in crankcase pressure being vented back through the crankcase breather pipe and into the oil bath filter and the source of my leak.

On examining the factory manual I notice that my valve is different to the diagram shown but it does say a different one was used on later models.

Does anyone have a photo or diagram of this new valve as my one looks factory but a porous bush or spring is missing to make it function.

My solution was to drill a 2mm hole in the valve head and after a 2+ hour mowing session all is as it should be and now the back pressure is being vented correctly.

Below is a photo of my one.

Many thanks
Regards Brad

There should be a heavy flat washer with a small hole in the middle and through the hole should be a "jiggle Pin" a thin pin that can move around in the air flow, this keeps the hole clear. You will find that the hole will block over time unless you have this pin fitted. There have been three positions for that "valve", one was in the banjo bolt on top of the Valve Cover, one was in a valve assembly that screwed into the manifold and another was where the valve was straight into the Manifold intake as in the pictures. They all did the same job, no matter where they were fitted. I have pictures if you need them....John(UK)..fergusontractors@hotmail.com
