TO 20 engine bogging down

I have a new to me to20. I used it sever times for small quick jobs with no problem. Then it sat for about 2 months and it was very dificult to start. Once started, it ran good for an hour of box blading. After an hour the engin felt like it was running out of gas, loosing power. I have nener cleaned the carb. Where should I start?

I'd start by unscrewing the drain plug under carb bowl and let it flush out bowl sediment then turn on the gas and check for a good flow.If you can partial choke it and it improves then it's probably gas flow.

Fuel sysytem has three filters
Inside tank connecteed to fuel shut off valve.
Top of fuel bowl.
Inside brass fitting to carb.

Top one is drain the gas, remove entire valve from tank and clean it up. If you notice the knob it says to "open fully for reserve".
Make sure both fuel feeds at the top of the valve flow air freely if you might need your reserve to work.

How do you know the problem is in the carb? The next time this happens immediately check for a good spark. Pull the center wire from the distributor cap, hold it near a good ground and try a start. The spark should be FAT AND BLUISH-WHITE, color of lightning. If it is then look at the fuel supply. If it"s not, then you need to look at the primary ignition circuit.

Your problem sounds like it could be caused by an overheating coil. If you have a 12v system and you don"t have a 3.2 ohm 12 v coil you"ll need to put a resistor in series with the coil torecuce the primary current to about 4 amps max. Otherwise the coil can overheat.

If the fuel flow is OK when you remove the drain on the Carb and allow it to run into a container for a few mins, just to make sure that the flow continues properly. Try opening the main Jet on the Carb 1/4 of a turn while the engine is running and then screw it back in again to the original position, it could be some dirt blocking this jet and if you alter the main jet it could clear it. If the fuel flow slows down, check the filter in the elbow where the main fuel pipe is attached to the Carb, unscrew the elbow from the Carb and blow it out the opposite way the fuel flows or it may not clear it out. It could also be the HT coil is overheating and breaking down, if you have another coil you could try it on the tractor to see if that cures the problem.
