Well i guess there's only one way to say this and that is to tell the truth! The to20 I sold to the brother gave him problems so I decided to offer him the money back and he took it. Seems after 3 minutes of running it always fouled the plugs and spit out BLACK smoke, an obvious sign of a rich mixture. I won't tell now the fix but I'll give all you tractor gurus a chance to air your cures. Now i should change my handle to 3 TRACTORS!! OH HOW MY POCKET BOOK HURTS!! Tony and Bruce, Jeff and SIR JOHN, take it easy on me.

After lighting my pipe and consulting doctor Watson on this matter, we came to a conclusion. We concluded you must go to tractor supply and purchase a carb rebuild kit. After soaking the carb in.... agh, now the plot thickens! I was trying to analize the one gallon can of carb cleaner from autozone. It smells an aeromatic mixture of brakefluid and paint remover, nearly as tempting as my home grown cherry flavored cigar leaves. I suggest a soak in old brake fluid, a week or more. Install the kit, don't bother with the brass needle seats if the old ones don't want to come out. DO NOT put it back on the TO20. You know the 35 runs well... correct? Then, you put this rebuilt one on the 35, get it to start, then run well. THEN put it on the 20.... aaaagh, but why? If the carbs are nearly identical? and you own them ALL? Leave it on the 35 if all is well with it. I have??? how many HF's and MF's? If I had to put every carb back where it came from... couldn't do it. They're are all chinese checkers now. Very well, off to work, Watson and myself must be going now aswell, the skunks show up about now, they work second shift here....

Tried the old tractor supply rebuild kit, didn't work. Took carb apart. soaked in MURATIC ACID. put back together, no help, wires, plugs, coil, switched and left. But it is a problem with the carb.

Ok it's off to bed, no one has a cure but someone gave a generic answer that fits, Jerry said carb out of adj.,well, if it's running rich.Tell all tomorrow.

Hope I can jump in too... :)

Too high fuel level in the bowl ? Due to whatever reason, including a hole in the float.

I guess Jerry and Bendee were the closest with incorrect adj. and to much fuel. I thought the main jet was all the way in and then I backed off a turn and 1/4, but the threads on the needle were galled and where it bottomed out was still about 2 or more turns out, then add the turn and 1/4 out more. I'm surprised she ran at all.Sometimes the simpliest problems create biggest headaches. I even went into checking valve settings and while there retorqued the head, played with govenor and timing. The later models have a much bigger knob.

My fault got it backwards that happend once to me i had the jet turned to far out to were soot was coming out i should have rememberd

Yeah Trac, you right, we all read of folks problems and we all try and help and when it's something simple or stupid they won't tell the fix so we all lose. There was a guy having problems with his to20 oil screen and never heard how he fixed and theres others that got me interested.I had no oil to valves and found it was me installing bearing in upside down, a STUPID mistake but at least i told what the cure was.If not for this forum and Sir John i'd still be scratching my head. Who cares if people i never meet think i'm stupid.

Oh yeah, sold the 20 to my other brother this morning. What to by next, Not a 23c TONY or is it Sherlock?

Runs 3 minutes and fouls out. . .
Stuck choke, Sinking float, I would have to go with the choke being messed up because it needs it to run cold, then will foul the engine if left on too long.
As for the choke problem. . .
Choke rod binding or perhaps the butterfly valve being in backwards.
Good Night!
