I got the to35 back from sandblaster late yesterday, covered it up overnight then got out this morning and primed with rustoleum red oxide. Next step was rewiring and driving into barn for the teardown. First pic is it with sandblast, second is prime, third is torndown and fourth is oil in bellhousing. Some may ask why i didn't rebuild first but i figured the sand would be inside.

That bell housing is a lot cleaner than many I've seen!

Looks like you are up for either or both a crank shaft rear seal and transmission input shaft seal.

Question: I've never seen a Continental engine. What is that above the timing gears - thermostat or water pump housing? Is it part of the block casting?

A shame you did that. It may never run again. Murphy's law says 'thou shall not paint anything before it is already running good'. I am afraid you put a whammy on it... I thought I had oil in the bell housing, you do have a leak there, better refer back to all our threads about getting into the seals in there, if you find an easy fix, please let us know... power adjust rims on this one too??? They are breeding like flies.....

Tony, if things don't go my way then you put the whammy on me, just kidding i hope but you will get the blame, that leak is an eye catcher and Sir John may get to put in his two cents worth as I plan to get his input as well. Here's a little info on the leak, when i had the rear end higher than the front i got what looked like milky gear oil leaking continiously but after tear down it looks as all of it is motor oil(well used),and rear seal looks oily so to be on the save side I'll change both. That should take care of the jinx you put on me.#1,2,and 4 are oiling as well, after the to20 I'm just glad motor oil isn't milky.Darn it if these 35's aren't as well engineered as the 20's,intake took way to long to pull!!
