TO20 hydro problems

Lift would go up when you engage pto. not very strong. Took pump completely apart. Soaked/cleaned, replaced O rings, put back together, added freah fluid and engaged pto. Lift went all the way up and seemed to be strong. However, it will not come down. In or out of gear. Found a spring in the bottom of the pump housing and a another part near the drain plug. This part is a about 3" long with a hole in the middle, slightly curved knobs on each end.
Also there is a small shaft that runs thru the bottom of the pump housing with a keyway attached to on end and a round valve type peaice on the other. There was nothing to keep this shaft from sliding in and out.

any ideas?

It sounds like your control valve is stuck in the lift position.

If you took the pump out an cleaned it, you surely must have seen the control valve located below the relief valve! The piece you found sounds like the cross piece that attaches to the control valve stem that crosspiece in turn is attached to the the vertical control fork that hangs down. If you you and you got the pump out without feeling that resisitance, then the control valve was all ready disconcted from the control fork. If you felt some resisitance taking out the pump and didn"t disconnect the valve from the control fork, then you damaged the control valve. I would guess that the spring you found is the one that connects the control fork to the lift cylinder.
A word of "after the fact" advice. trouble shoot the hydraulics before taking the pump out. Mst lift problems are due to leaking lift cylinders, stuck control vaves, or crud in the relief valve. Until you sort out the problem and eliminate the easier possibilites, don"t mess with the pump. Get a Ferguson Shop Manual(~$20) and a parts manual before you start taking thinks apart.
Take advantage of the bazillon man-years of experience on these foums to ask questions if you don"t know how to troubleshoot the hyraulics. the folks on here are more than willng to share their exerience with you.

Looks like you may need to re-pull the pump and replace the control valve.

The parts you found in the bottom come from the Oscillator from the Control Valve and the Pump will need to come out to re-fit them. The hydraulics sticking up will be due to the Control Valve sticking. You could have damaged the CONTROL Valve Bush and that is what is causing the problem, they are quite fragile as they are a very fine finish. You would have been better contacting someone before you started tearing the Hydraulics down as very often just because it is a Hydraulic problem doesn't mean that the system needs taking apart it is often adjustment or something that can be done through the round side cover. If you need help with it, just email me and tell me what you have done and I will send you the information about what you need to do next to correct it.Make sure to use the correct oil in the [email protected]

The 3" part look like the one in this picture labled yoke?

How big is the spring? Perhaps like the one behind the yoke?

These parts attach to the control fork and yes they are ment to slide with the control valve. As John said. the part that goes theough the bottom of the pump is the agitator that is made to keep the control valve from sticking.

The third picture is the pump parts book picture.
