Can I put a universal temp. guage in the block where the radiator drain plug is located? and I will be mounting the guage itself in the dash panal, I just dont know if the sensor on the end of the lead will go far enough into the block, where the radiator drain is located,to screw into the block with the proper fittings, thanks in advance.......Hollis

The water temp. sensing probe should go on the left side of the water pump there is a plug you take out and then usually you need an adapter to put in the hole to give it a little more length so the probe will fit in there. Actually very simple to do, as I did mine. LOL There is a blanking spot on the left side of the dash that can be punched out then you have a nice round hole in which to install the gauge.

Thanks guys, didnt know there was a plug in the water pump the universal guage should have a lead wire long enough to reach from the dash panel to the water pump surely, thanks for the help.... Hollis

Hollis, please check when you are buying the gauge as some have 72" and those are way to long find a 48" or possibly a 42" I believe would work but a 48" is not to much extra to roll up in a coil. Measure from the water pump towards the dash and over to the left side of dash where it should be installed. That will tell you what length of tubing (or what ever they call it) you would need.

I just got thru installing a new temp sensor in my to20, the original was so rusted that it finally broke into, the only trouble i found was cleaning out the rust with a file and trying to find 1 in an auto parts store, all the ones i found were the type that mount under the dash so i robbed 1 off the 57 chevy truck. I am wondering why you want to mount it in the water drain hole, it has a purpose all its own.

I am going to mount the temp guage where the amp guage is located i have a new oil pressure guage on the right side of the steerin wheel and I am going to mount the guauge where the amps guage is located, its the temp guage probe i need to insert into the block drain valve because there is nowhere else to put it, someo=ne said to insert the probe in a place in the water pump, but I have a brand new water pump and it does not have the removeable plug someone said it had so, I was going to put the temp gauge probe on the right side of the block where the radiator drain valve is currently located, the 1950 TO_20 evedently didnt come with a temp gauge from the factory, and I want to keep an eye on the engine temp while working the ol tractor while out mowing, good idea huh? hope that makes sense to u (2 tractors but am open to any other Ideas/ thanks 2 tractors for the advice

I have a 1951 TO-20 and just installed a temperature gauge in it today. On my tractor there is a place for the sensor in the water outlet as you can see in the picture.
