Flanged vs. thrust

Had to have crank turn and am on the hunt for 30 undersize bearings for mains, if it is possible to find flanged then wouldn't they be more desirable than other type using thrust? If oil hole is in wrong place then can these be redrilled? Which model came with flanged?

Z120-Z129 had either of the following. Straight shell with thrust washers or 1/2 flanged and thrust washer on other 1/2.
Z134-Z145 had full flanged but thrust was taken at center main rather than front main as on Z120-Z129.
Using Z134-145 mains in Z120-129 engines has been discussed some in archives but I am not certain it works but think there is a reasonable chance it will. I don't see why you could not drill hole for oiling if needed , just don't make heat or the lead melts real easy. If you come up with something please post the results.

Thanks for answering, don't quite understand 1/2 flanged part as pic I'm looking at shows one bearing with a flange on each side and i'm thinking this would x out both thrust washers, is this correct?

If the bearing has flanges on 2 sides then there is not any room for thrust washers, but as far as I know up til recently no one made a full flanged bearing for the front main. It has always been either straight shell or 1/2 flange (flange on one side and thrust washer on other side with shims) I am not saying there is not such a thing as full flanged for front main but I have not heard of it. I have not heard of lots of things.
However the Z134-145 used full flanged bearings for thrust but the thrust was on the center main.
I would be interested in looking at the bearing you are looking at if it is in the internet.

I purchased .030 mains from external_link for my Z129 on a TO-30. The front bearing has flanges on both sides. No thrust washers.

Thanks ,very interesting .
Do you have a part # for what you received from Stevens. The # I found is S60899 but photos were generic so could not tell anything.
agkits has photos of 1/2 flanged and no flange
for Z120 -Z129.

I purchased the S060899 .030 bearings. They had the front bearing flanged and no problems with the oil holes lining up. You will have to call , I think it is Nancy who places the orders. The bearings dropped right in and the price is reasonable.

Just went to stevens to see if they had mains for the to20 and was none so I looked up your 30 and found none, my bearings were 129 were yours that much?

I am looking at their catalog right now and .020 main bearings for a TO-20 are part # S60898. $105.95 set. These where full flanged on the ones I recieved. The picture online is generic.

I received my order of main bearings today, and they were half flanged. That did eliminate the inner thrust. Found them on ebay and the pic was generic and the company just ordered thru sparex and i probably paid extra, hope this info saves other part hunters from extra expense.
