TO-30 air filter pipe/cap?

Newbie question:

I'm looking at a 1952 TO-30 which has a air filter pipe/cap, extending up through the hood. Exact same faded grey color as the rest of the tractor. One owner.

Could this be factory or, more likely, owner-installed?

The TO-30 OEM set up has ascreened opening in the dash panel to provide air to the air cleaner/carb. None of these eary fergusons took air from above the hood.

I have not seen any that penetrate the hood since the hood opens for access to the fuel tank, pivoting about a point above the front axle.

Does this tractor you are looking at have the air intake on the right side of dash also? Did you find a serial number so you KNOW it is a Ferguson?? With the pipe up through the hood how do you open the hood to put fuel in the gas tank and water in the radiator?

I know it"s a Ferguson: serial number 83700, which makes it a 1952 TO-30.

I haven"t "hands-on" looked at it, so don"t know how the hood is raised, or gas added.

In my opinion, this tractor is a 1941 9N Ford-Ferguson tractor. It has a flathead engine and the four rims do not match those found on a Ferguson TO-30 tractor.

Excellent. When I called thay gave me TO-83700 for the serial number (they said from the dash plate); my fault for not driving over and looking.

I found a pic online of a 1941 9N which looked identical -- wheels, engine, etc. including the air precleaner.

Thanks -

I own a '51 TO20 and a '40 Ford 9N. That's a Ford 9N. The serial number would put it late 1941 just prior to the wartime 2N.

If you go look see, it's missing the breather tube from the carb to the cleaner and the generator has been rigged up. That's not where the generator cutout switch belongs. Looks pretty complete otherwise.

I see your question has already been answered below, but I thought I would throw in these pictures for reference.
As I recall, this one is a 52 model also. I purchased it from the son of the original owner who is deceased. He had it partially disasembled to paint and it had been sitting in the barn for 6 years after his death. Unfortunatly we never did find all the parts he had removed, but we did find most of them. I have since picked up a few of the missing parts in hopes of one day putting it back together.
In the second picture, the large hole in the dash top right is where the air intake is. I have the screen that goes there, but not the hose. There are no holes in the hood (other than a few rust holes) and as others said there would be no way to open the hood with an intake run through the hood sheet metal.
FYI, in the 1st picture you see a for sale sign. It took me about 2 days to realize I didn't want to sell it after all, I truely want to see it move under it's own power one day.
