Thanks Jerry/MT for the snow blade idea

I wanted to post some pictures of a modification of a scraper blade suggested by Jerry/MT that I followed on my 6 ft blade. I modified it by adding a 7 ft long by 6" wide by 3/8 " thick piece with a 2.5 " pipe split and welded on. I added wings to mine to make it 7 ft which throws the snow to the outside of the wheel track so when you back up you are not on top of a hump of snow. It cut my time by two thirds and as you can see in the photo doesn"t drag your gravel off the road. Thanks again Jerry for the idea. Tractor is a 1950 TO-20.

Glad you found my idea useful.
Did you have any problems when you split the pipe? I did mine with a torch and because of the residual stresses in the pipe, it wrapped up on itself. I had to use wedges to get the pipe on the plate and a jack and some chains to pull it straight so I could tack it in place before I welded it. I sure works good on gravel though.
I wish I had extended it however and I have a 7 ft blade.

Jerry:
I used a torch also, but I remembered your warning about it shrinking as it cooled so I drove wedges in as I cut so that it was wide enough that I could just slide the metal through, knocking the wedges out as I went. I have a small Victor 100C torch and used a number "0" tip to blow 3/8" holes for the 5/8" bolts. I don"t have a drill press so having a hole makes drilling out the bolts holes by a hand drill a lot easier.

I like that idea. My blade scuffs the concret pad and throws the gravel. Perhaps, I can do small segments rather than a long pipe? Really just need a bumper.

Did you gents, just use a piece of bar stock in replacement of the regular blade tip?
