Ferguson Sherman on eBay

Has anyone been able to install a Sherman Hi/Lo (with the correct Ferguson topcover) and still use the shift lever starter located on the bell housing? If so, I would love to see a picture or diagram of the modified starter switch link (181 682 M1) which goes between the starter toggle lever and the reverse shifter rail, passing over the hi/lo top cover. (TO-30)

That is exactly why he is letting you know it has the correct Ferguson cover so you can start it with the gear shift.

Sorry Steve, maybe I jumped the gun we had a TO 30 when growing up but as far as anyone knew it was a Hi and regular only. We had 8 forward and 2 reverse only as far as I knew.

Even with the correct Ferguson top cover on the Sherma Hi/lo, the starter switch link (181 682 M1) still hits the top cover preventing it from reaching the shift lever starter switch located in the bell housing. What am I missing here?

Thanks everyone!

Steve,

How much clearance do you have between the top cover and the steering assy? Could you bridge the top cover or go around it on the side?

I'd think this would be easy to make.

Here is another option I think will work. If space is limited you could put a 90 degree twist in the long link to keep it low enough.

As a third option... you could also make the verticle piece wide enough that it would fill the shift rail slot and prevent rotation there....

I am sure you can think of many more.

if there is enough clearance i would use flat steel and rod to go around the housing on both sides. no fabrication required, just cut to fit and drill holes. to fit it in the housing you will probably need two couplers on the rod on the long side where i have noted an X. you could either use threaded rod, or cotter pins.

f = housing

-- flat steel similar to original linkage part

To All,
Thanks for the suggestions. John Smith confirmed that the original Sherman for Ferguson's came with a modified starter switch link. There is enough clearance to fabricate a new starter switch link which would pass over the top cover. The piece would resemble a hockey stick rather than a flat, straight bar. Sounds like a good excuse to finally buy a plasma cutter!!!

A one piece hockey stick shaped link... That would work too. (essentially the fab ideas I was coming up with...)

I bet you could make one with a 4" angle grinder. Though a Plasma cutter is way cooler!!! yea we'll back you with your significant other...

Yea, he "NEEDS" a plasma cutter.

Hey Steve can I come over and play with you new toy?

Jeff
