NEW GUY WANTS TO SAY HEY!

dagger dog

New User
Hi,

My names Drue Rice, AKA dagger dog (long story don't ask).

I am the proud owner  of a Massey Ferguson 1959 TO35 delux, just bought it monday this week.

Thought this might be the place to pick up some know how, I've been lurking up to now and trying to find out which oil filter fits the conversion on the engine, it is the spin on conversion and it has a Massey oil filter on it but the part # is not legible.

Darn near went blind today try to search the archived threads, must have read through a dozen pages, and got some good info but no luck on a filter #.

So I took the threaded adaptor out of the block and the rubber gasket off the old filter and headed out, tried NAPA no luck, also a local farm supply Orscheln no luck, thought what the heck Wally World no luck, well I hit gold? oil? at he local Tractor Supply the FRAM PB50, fits the conversion adaptor, and the rubber seal is the exact same size, and this filter has the anti siphon flap to keep the filter full since it is mounted almost vertical.

I have yet to do any work with the old tractor, planning on skidding some logs, tomorrow, as I need to get the rest of my firewood up for the coming winter.

Again just want to say hey and I'm sure I can learn a lot from you fellas !

thanks for letting me ramble on,

dd

Welcome Drue, I have 1956 TO35 and used a oil filter conversion from this site. I now use WIX 5150 oil filter with no problem.Should be available at your nearest auto parts store.

Welcome, I am a fairly seldom poster here, but have enjoyed the site for years. A wealth of info from a great bunch of folks. Since you are new to our beloved old tractors I would like to mention one safety thing. You mentioned skidding logs, please remember these old tractors flip over backward pretty easily. If you are working on any slopes it might be especially hazardous. Take care and enjoy. RonW

Hey,

Dave in Old La Sal, UT. with a '51 TO20 6v positive ground. Also a Ford 9N.

You'll be comin' back here often. They're very helpful and knowledgeable.

Welcome and you'll find alot of parts right here at YT.

This might be the Massey number for the spin-on filter.

1447082M91
Have an AGCO Dealer run that number for you.

Thanks guys for all the tips and your warm welcomes.

Saftey is a definite factor, I'm kinda leary of the old beast , it has way more power than any thing I've used before. So I will be cautiious!

keep a close eye on the transmission oil level, these old TO-35's love to leak oil out of the front of the transmission shaft, also check under tractor about location of gear shift levers and be sure tractor has a upside down carter key in transmission drain hole and that hole is open and clear.

Buy you a gallon of GL-1 oil at NAPA (best price around) add as necessary and enjoy the drive. Be sure your shift lever rubber boots are in good shape if old tractor has to set outside as water can get into transmission if you have faulty boots.

Good luck and stay safe.

Drue,Hello, I think you will like you're 35. I've had my 1955 for 26 years and it has proved to be a stout tireless little tractor, and for it's size will do a lot of work. Welcome to the club! -ed
