Cylinder head for a Z129 engine in a Massey TO 30

Does anybody know if a TO 20 cylinder head will fit a TO 30? From what I have been able to find out, the Z120, and the Z129 engine block are the same other then the Z120 is a 3 3\16 bore and the Z129 is a 3 1\4 bore. This should not matter since you can buy the 3 3\8 piston and sleeve kit for the Z129. Also the head, intake\exhaust, and valve cover gaskets are the same for both engine's, leading me to believe that the TO 20 head will bolt right on to the TO 30. The intake valves and springs on both heads are the same size (Part number) the exhaust valves on the TO 20 are a little smaller valves, but shouldn't really effect performance that much. I would really like to know if anybody has tried this yet. Thanks

The Head will fit. from a TO20 and TE20 on a TO30 but you may find that you need shorter studs to attach the valve cover...John

Is it worth having the seats ground or replaced for the bigger valves on the TO 20 head, actually making it into a TO 30 head, or just have a valve job done and run it?

The compression ratio is very different, and would NOT recomend it. The t0 30 chamber is much smaller. If you use the 120 head, you must use the 120 flat top piston, any diameter.

It would be better to have all that done but it all comes back to how much you want to spend on it......John

Just reading the service manual again on that Head it is a little confusing...DON'T fit the Head until we work it out just what they do mean. Email me and I will send you the exact wording so you can see for yourself..John

Here's what the Ferguson Manual says: "The same head maybe used on the TO-20 or TE-20 tractors but the TO-30 head cannot be used on the TO-20 or TE-20."
thus the To-20 and TE-20 heads are equivalent but the TO-30 head is not.

The compression ratio of the Z129 is 6.5 while the TO/TE-20 is 6.1 and the intake valve is much larger on the TO-30 head. The valve face angles for the intake an exhaust valves are different for the two models. Given an unlimited ammount of money I suppose you can make a Z120 head into a Z129 head but I personally wouldn't waste my time and money.

that was how I read it as well....it is a bit confusing the way it is worded, I read it a couple of times. Thanks for your input Jerry....John

My email address is [email protected] Can you send me some pics of the head and a pic on the dropped valve. My address is 453 Swaying Oaks Dr. Niangua MO. 65713, so you can figure shipping cost. If you have Paypal, send me your info, and I'll send you the money after I see some pic's of it, or if you don't have paypal let me know how you want payment made. Thanks Chris

Thanks for the info John, hopefully I can get this TO30 head off of Ken Steele. I much rather have the right head, Ive just had a hard time finding one, I already have a new valve train kit for the TO 30, just need the head to put them in.
