Looking for a TO 30 cylinder head

After hearing a clanking noise from the engine the other day I took off the cylinder head and found that one of the value springs broke causing one of the intake valves to let loose and it was twisted on top of the piston. The sleeve that the value sits in was a little warped from the value moving. The piston appears to be fine. My question is would it be worth it and cheaper to have the entire head redone or to find a new ( at least new to me) cylinder head? Has anyone had to make this decision? Does any one know where I could get a used head? I looked the the parts but didn't see a head for the TO30 unless I missed it? Thanks

I would take the head to a machine shop and have it redone. My books show exchange heads at between $600 and $700. The valve guides are replaceable. I always have the exhaust valve seats machined out and steel valve seats installed so that I can run unleaded gas without problems. Replace all valves and springs. luck

Unless the head has a crack in it, it can be rebuilt. It sounds like you just damaged a valve guide and that can be replaced and it should not be that costly. As long as you have the head off, you might have the machine shop check the seats and see if they need refurbishement. A valve job in luding new guides, valves, and seals is ~$350-400.
