Stabilizing 3-point hitch

I was wondering if anyone had any idea for stabilizing a 3 point hitch so I can drag a trailer without a) the hitch swinging laterally; b) killing myself by flipping the tractor. I have a '48 TEA20.

Hi, you can watch ebay for sway bar brackets that bolt under the axle trumpets onto the fender bolts . Then there's 2 flat bars with a hole at each end . You put one end on the pin of the bracket & the other end onto the pin on your drawbar . You should also use a drawbar locking device so the drawbar doen't turn over causing you other problemns . Your Fergy would use the same setup the Ford Ns do .If you want some leads where to email, you can send me your email address , then I can give you some names for used parts . HTH ! God bless .

You will probably get a lot of suggestions so I'll go ahead and chime in with a couple. You stabilize with "stabilizers" to stop side-to-side motion. Stabilizers can be bars or chains and they provide a second point of attachment on each side under the axle and slip over the pins on the end of the drawbar. The tractor parts ad at the top left of this page has them as does almost any TSC or other farm supply store or eBay. If you don't have brackets under your fender mounts you will need to get those. You can also buy or make a drawbar that attaches to the underside of the differential (but that is not what you asked about). If you use a standard hitch ball mounted in your bar-stock drawbar you will need something to keep the drawbar from turning and unhitching itself. A couple of pieces of bar or angle bolted through the drawbar and chained or clamped to the lower lift arm a foot and a half or so toward the front of the tractor will usually suffice.

PLEASE get stabilizer brackets (bolt under axle with longer fender bolts) AND stabilzer brackets.
It is not a waste of money..they can, and should be, used for nearly ANYTHING that you connect via the 3 point. Not only do they keep "things" tight behind tractor, but they can save ya alot of $$$ when an implement cuts a tire or climbs up a tire and trashes a fender or both.
THese are a MUST for your tractor as they can be used for most implements.
For clarification, the mounts under the fenders are basically angle iron with a short "male" pin sticking out. The two flat bars will go: one end in the male (with a lynch pin) and the other end goes along side your lift arms and goes over the implements "male pin. both are held into place by another lynch pin.
these "stiff" flat bars will keep the implement from swinging side to side. Mark

Yep. I agree.

I use a sway bar on one side only and it works a treat. I've always assumed they were a given. A must have especially for grass slashers and grader blades with weight slopping from side to side.

The sway bar holds things firm.

WW,

I think your best bet to pull a trailer is to install a Drawbar kit on your tractor, that will stablize the movement of the hitch. That is by far the best solution.

Drawbar Kit, Swinging - Swinging Drawbar Kit. Painted Red. Contains Drawbar: 29.35" long, 2.00" wide, 1.00" thick, Rear Drawbar Hanger, Drawbar Clevis Assembly and Drawbar Clevis Pin. For Models: TE20, (TEA20 late only), TEF20, TO20, TO30, TO35, FE35, 50. ADDITIONAL $10 SHIPPING FEE DUE TO WEIGHT. (Part No: 49A34R)

other options but not as good:: These items will stablize the side to side motion but not stop the up/down motion, you have to have the orginal HF hitch attachments for that and I could not find any for sale. I still have all the orginal equipment for my TO-35, if you are interested in seeing the proper setup I could take a picture for you and email.

good luck and stay safe,
