OT - slasher lubrication

I guess this is off-topic, but I'm sure someone here will know the answer.

When I bought my tractor (still less than a year ago, but it seems like ages) it came with a slasher that attaches to the PTO. I have used this quite a bit and it has never complained even though I have never paid it a minute's attention.

It is probably about time it get some maintenance. Since I don't have a manual and cannot work out what brand (let alone model!) it is, I am looking for general maintenance advice. In particular, where should I lubricate it and with what? It still spins easily when I rotate its shaft by hand, so I don't think it's urgent, but I'm sure it's due!

As far as I know there should be some grease fittings in the U joints. I am under the impression allmost all U joints have grease fittings (Zerks over on this side of the pond).

Maybe some 90-140 wt. in the gear box. If it leaks I have heard of using corn head grease in gear box instead of oil.

I use 85-140W oil in the gear box of my bush hog (slasher) with no problems. The 90W oil that your tractor's transmission uses would also work well, I suspect.

What no one ever considers (including the manufacturers) until you price a replacement, is the trailing wheel(s). The upright pivot shaft usually has a grease fitting, but not the axle. If your axle does not have one, now would be a good time to remove the wheel and axle and add a grease fitting there as well. The axle is usually a hardened 1" bolt. The problem is the axle housing is softer than the bolt and you have to buy the whole assembly if it wallows out.
