Wire gauge for ingnition

I continue to be plagued with electrical problems with my TO30. B post and wire off the regulator are hot to the touch and my volt meter is showing a wild arc back and forth sometimes charging and even pinning the needle and other times dropping to 0. So, Im going to go through every wire and replace them with new. I"ve gone through my Ferguson Dealer Shop Manual (please tell their are better manuals out there than this, and don't recommend anything from Itec) and I"m not seeing a wire gauge recommendation for all ignition wires ie, wires to and from ammeter, key swith, regulator, generator etc. Anyone happen to know the specs on this?
Thanks

I'd go with at least 10 gauge for the charging wire and the wire from the ammeter to the battery (probably the battery post on the regulator). 8 would be better.

Lights, I'd go with 12 gauge, and ignition no smaller than 16, all stranded. Anything smaller won't stand up, though the loads won't be hard on it.

Find a ratchet crimper that really crimps the crimp terminals solidly and that will help the heating a whole lot. Solder just guarantees a broken wire because it wicks between the strands and makes that part of the wire stiff. It will break right where the solder wicked.

Voltage drop is the nemesis of 6 volt electrical systems, so going a wire size larger when possible makes everything work better.

10fingers- As far as service manuals go, you should check Ebay. Original and reprinted service manuals for Fergusons are frequently offered there. I found the complete factory service, parts, and operator's manuals in CD-ROM format for my TO35 on Ebay. The factory manuals are way better than the I&T ones and very detailed.

Thanks for the info Lance. I have the original Fergy manual, but I'm not impressed with the photos. All photocopies and poor imgae. I'll look around for others.
