I currently mow 5 acres with my Kubota BX2200 that has a 60” belly mower. I’m looking to buy a mower for my 1949 TE20. Does anyone here mow with a TO or a TE20? What size / type / brand of mower are you running? I would really like to get a 7’ or 8’ deck but Im thinking that 20 horse isn’t enough for this size mower….
Thanks,

Pete

Thanks for everyone’s input. I’m thinking I’m going to want to get a larger tractor.

I use a Woods RD6000 3pt. finishing mower on the back of my TO20. The combo works great, I only wish the tractor had Live Power.

5 or 6 foot belly or 3point finish mower is probably fine. I see both on 9Ns and 8N's all the time. I have a 5' bush hog, my TO pulls it fine in all but the tallest/thickest swamp grass. I was looking for a finish mower to avoid sideways shooting rock/stick missiles while cutting thru the vineyard and orchard. I bought an old 5' flail mower thinking that was the answer. My TO pulled it okay for finish mowing short grass, but really struggled to maintain speed if I tried to use it in tall grass or mutliflora...but it did do a DANDY job on multiflora... enough so that I sold the pair of goats I had bought for that task.. the billy goat was a PITA anyway. A flail mower drops all the cutting straight on the ground, which is one reason they are commonly used along roads and buildings. They apparently need a lot of HP though. The maint. on the flail mower was a pain in the butt too. I finally sold it and bought a shiny MTD mower ~ 5 years ago. The shine has worn off the mower, it's starting to require more & more maint. I'm thinking a 5 foot rear discharge 3pt finish mower is in my future... I kind-of like belly mowers though, but want the rear discharge, and don't want to be dropping the belly mower all the time for other jobs...it's quite a delema.

7or 8 foot deck? Your TO can't handle anything that big. Get a 5 or 6 foot 3 point mounted bush hog or finish mower and you and your tractor will be happy. I think the 5 foot size is best and thats what I use.

I have a very early TE 20 that I mow 12 acres with using a 5' Kingcutter Brushhog I run in second gear 2/3 to 3/4 throttle and she just purrs along, never uses oil just gas, it takes a good day and a tank to do it but I try to mow 3 to 4 times a year or more depending if my head needs a break from the real world, to think I almost sold this tractor right after I bought it to buy a 8N,the deal fell through and now I wouldn't sell for any amount{ and I mean any amount!} and just bought a 35...sold on Fergies

I use a 5 foot Caroni finishing mower on a TEA20. Works good except when I hit the rocks in the field. (Glacial till, lots of rocks!!) Hard on blades.

I use a 60" brush cutter (international brand) with a TE-20. Only get into trouble in very thick grass. Then I make partial cuts to get through that area.

A 6 ft belly mower would be more like it, but a rear mounted finish mower would be easier to find. but rear mower weight could become an issue if it is a real heavy model. A TO-20 really does not have any more power than the diesel Kubota you are using. So you can't go overboard with size. If you want to finish the job faster, then get a larger tractor with the correct size deck. My Opinion.

As for belly mower I dont know what a to-20 is capable of. A to-30 cant handle a 6 foot hog more or less a seven or eight. It might be able to handle a 7 or 8 finish mower provided you aint climbing hills while mowing.
