My father, who is currently restoring his 1952 TEA20-80, sent me an email the other day saying that whilst sanding the hood, he discovered an unusual logo at the front of the hood on each side.

The logo, which is in yellow, says "twenty 80", with the "twenty" in script and the "80" in a 3-dimensional style. Neither of us have seen this type of logo on a Ferguson before, so we're wondering what it is. He also says that he's discovered some more yellow at the rear of the hood but can't make out what it says.

Can anyone help us out with the origins of this? The tractor, I believe, has always lived in Nova Scotia, Canada, after having been shipped from England.

Here's a sketch he made of the logo, as well its location on the hood:

Ah-ha! Now I understand the 20/85 references I've come across. Or at least the 85 part anyway...

My Canadian Fergy was advertised as a 20/85 and I didn't understand what it meant - I thought they were all TEA20s. There are no 20/85 identifiers anywhere on it that I can see nor does the id plate under the the steering wheel indicate anything other than the usual TEA information.

Here's the second photo. Yes, someone had painted the tractor red at some point. Don't worry, she's going grey once again.

NOTE: I made a typo (which I was pretty persistent with!!) and this tractor is a 2085.

This is a sketch my father made of the logo, with some measurements. A photo will come later, once the film is developed: http://maritime.dns.ca/mgerrits/tractors/twenty85_small.jpg

Thanks.

20/85 was a Canadian thing and was added when it reached Canada, it was not added to the tractor in the UK. As far as I know there was no 20/80 although I have seen tractors with that on but it was non standard and was added by an enthusiast I suppose, like when they paint them red and grey.

I have never hear or seen this before. Ask him to take pictures. If not from the factory, could also be a dealer thing to promote he had the latest tractors.

I'm guessing this may be a Canadian "thing". The 85 mm Standard engine TEA20 was called a "20-85" in North America only; the term was not used in Europe and Australia. 80 mm or 85 mm, they were still all called TEA20's.

It appears there were regional "variations" made to Fergys. In Australia the Distributor, a Harry Ferguson subsidiary, appears to have added a blue band around the bonnet and Australia only aluminum "Ferguson" name plates on the sides of the bonnet.
Any chance of a photo?

SORRY! That should read "twenty 85" obviously.

My own Ferguson is a 2080, hence my mistake. :)
