Here is something that I put together to help identify and correlate tractor years and engine serial number. We all know that the Z129 engine numbers were not exactly serially installed in the TO-30, but from the graph, it is close enough to tell if you are not near the changeover at the year end. The data is from the tractor registery on this site with all obvious omissions and mistakes eliminated..

Have Fun!!!

Jim - very good work, I was unaware of the registry but have now added TO 30 to it.

Serial number TO 62906

I noticed there were several others in there with the same engine casting number as mine

Z129A600 any thoughts as to why we has the same number. Looks like mine is one of the earlier ones made

Thanks again

Engine number and casting number are two different things... The casting number Z129A600 is the same for all TO-30s... The engine number (EN) is on a plate rivited to the engine near the coil... Z129-xxxxxx with the x's in the range 300,000 to 380,000. The tractor serial number (SN) is on the plate under the steering wheel and is TO-yyyyyy with th y's in the range of 60,001 to 140,000.

My correlation is between TO serial number (SN) and Engine Number (EN). Data that doesn't have both of these number (EN, and SN) was eliminated from my list.

As a pretty good predictor of engine number (EN), or Tractor Serial Number(SN) use:

EN=SN+240,000 (or SN=EN-240,000) [+/-2500, 95% confidence]

The standard deviation of these 55 samples is +/- 1250 from this prediction which means that at two standard deviations (+/- 2500) you can be about 95% certain of the correct number range... If you want to be 99% sure, use three standard deviations (or +/- 3750)... [Of course this assumes that your engine has not been replaced by another one of different vintage.]
