Please, could someone tell me if there are plugs (near or at the water pump) that might cause water to run into the block? It was the first time I used the tractor and before use the next day I checked the water. It was low so I added some and noticed it would not fill (just bubble sounds). Then I checked the engine oil. Guess where the water was going? The person I bought it from had the rings replaced because of smoking. Could the mechanic have done something to the block or these plugs to cause this? Any help would be appreciated,
KEN

Ken:
It's possible you have one or more cracked cylinders in your tractor's engine.

H Ferguson used Continental engines in the 20 and 30 series tractors. The engine used in the 20 has a reputation for developing cracks around the cylinder bases near the galley.

If you purchase a rebuilt block, it's a safe bet that the reman. unit you receive will have weld patches around one or more cylinders. It is quite a common problem in this block.

Ken,
I don't know if there's any plugs or not, but what you describe is a common sympton of a bad head gasket. Not familiar with your engine, so it may be something else.. Good Luck.

Well, after re-reading your problem, the water not filling at all is a real stumper. Perhaps the head gasket is not the problem.
Would be real interested when you find the culprit.
