Early T 20 seat

Hi I have a 1947 T20 - the seat is a 7 hole one and rotted in the centre on the 'sandwich' arrangement. I have couple of questions:

a) Is it worth removing the ali rivets to the sandwich and welding up and re rivetting or should I just get a new 9 hole seat

b) Can anyone supply a 7 hole seat?

Many thanks

Chip

I would suggest Ebay for your needs. If your running a basic seat spring, you can also look at the Offerings from the Ford line as well as
the Fergys.

Same thing happened to mine , I did this ,

Much more comfortable without the disc pinching your bum .
There is a reinforcing plate underneath , ten years on and there is no evidence of cracking or fatigue .

So you welded in a panel?

This is my 3rd try. The reply counter even went up.

external link sells a repair kit. Two metal disks and rivets. They could be welded as well.

I tried 3 times to reply but it may have been auto deleted because I mentioned a competitor. But there is a ell known tractor supplier that makes a kit. It rhymes with reiner.

Yes , a thicker and larger plate underneath to spread the load and provide a base for the thinner cosmetic and comfortable upper infill .
An hour or so with an angle grinder and flap wheel smoothed it out so that the welds were not noticeable . I believe it is stronger than the original .

I have now bought a half decent old stock later seat so I'll fit that. I found that some repro seats are light duty 'budget' ones, some are different shapes all trying to mimic the original, some are sold
without the discs, some have location bumps in the corners of the underside, and some are with the discs spot welded in place so the four rivet holes are open.
The one I've bought is the latter so I'll fit rivets anyway otherwise my OCD will prevent me sleeping.
