Hydraulic Fluid Level

I have a '55 TO-35, which I recently drained (both plugs) and refilled. The manual says it takes 6.6 gallons. I have put 6.75 gallons in, and it is only 1/4" on the dipstick, 3/4" or so below the fill line.
When I was cleaning the bottom out, I found an old dipstick laying beside the pump. I am wondering if I have a dipstick that is not the correct length now...

Before I drained the oil I had to pull the tractor on the side of a steep hill to remove the inspection cover without losing a lot of oil, because the oil was filled to the fill line on my current dipstick.
Now, with 6.75 gallons, the inspection cover can be removed on level ground, and the oil only comes out of the lowest inspection cover hole, which I can quickly put the bolt back in to keep the oil in
there.

Does this level sound right, and maybe I just need to find the proper length dipstick???

To answer my own question, I think, the tractor takes 6.6 IMPERIAL GALLONS. So that is about 8 US gallons. Looks like I just need to add some more.

as long as you fill to the bottom hole of the insp cover you are good to go. be sure you have a correct length dip stick.
