TO 30 12 volt conversion

Fellow Fergy owners:
I have a 12 volt conversion question. I recently converted a TO 30 that I own over to 12 volts with a Delco 10 SI 3 wire alternator. I ran the P1 wire to the lights post on my ignition switch since I did not want to mess with a diode or idiot light. My question is if I connect my headlights back up can I run the lights wire to the lights post on the ignition switch also or do I have to connect the P1 wire back over to the ignition post with a diode. Thanks for any responses.

Yes you can hook up the lights to the light part of the switch but if you do you cannot shut off the lights with out shutting off the tractor. I have my A/C W Speed Patrol set up that way. Heads light on alternator has power to excite it. Works just fine and once the lights and alternator has been turned on you can then turn the switch back to the run position and still have the alternator charging the battery and have the lights on
