Exhaust system TO 35

Recently my tailpipe fell down and got stuck in the dirt, bent in half and became useless. Obviously I have to replace it. I have a few questions:

Is vertical better than horizontal (which mine was)?

Where can I find the exhaust system clamps that hold the muffler up? I think mine were missing.

Thanks in advance for any information!

The YT has an online store with everything you should need. Click in the upper right hand corner. Vertical pipes have their own set of problems.

It depends on the use of the tractor.

If it gets a lot of use around tall dry grass, or any operation that could pack grass around the exhaust, a vertical exhaust would be better.

But vertical exhaust tend to catch tree limbs, blow exhaust in your face under certain conditions, catch rain water, and stress the manifold as there is no good way to brace it.

The horizontal exhaust clamps with a bracket attached to the bottom bolt of the inspection cover. Best to run a sealed bolt from the inside out, put the bracket on with a nut. Otherwise it will leak oil.

i ran a upright muffler on my TO35 for a while picking corn, after I caught the field on fire twice with the under belly muffler.

but after I stopped picking corn, I got tire of the noise in my face, also I hit a tree limb and that broke the corner of the exhaust manifold off.

so when I installed the new exhaust manifold I when back with the under belly muffler, much quitter,
I do check it from time to time when cutting heavy grass, to be sure it does not build up under the muffler.

so far no problems.

Thanks for the reply, going back with horizontal, cheaper to replace, and I have a LOT of trees to drive through!

no idea, the screen came on the old tractor when my dad bought it in 1960,

I looked around some on the internet but I did not find one,

every old Ferguson and ford tractor should have one if you ever cut grass or hay,

when I am cutting down in the bottoms, that grill will be covered in dead leaves grass, debris,

I turn motor off and the stuff just falls to the ground, otherwise it would be inside packed onto the front of the radiator.

you should be able to make one fairly easy.

the clips to hold it on come from

steiner tractor - 4 clips FD5311, however I did not see the grill available.

look up grill screen for 8N ford tractor,
when I goggled 8N I got lots of hits.

however I do not know if the grill screen would be the same on a ferguson,
worth a shot,
