Generator thoughts

I put a new generator (from Ytmag) on a to-30 about 6 months ago. Today it wouldn't start. So found the battery low. Jumped it and it started and ran great. However the generator was only putting out about 6.9 volts, which seems low, but battery was only at 6.0v, so maybe that has something to do with it. Battery about a year old. Vr is also new 6 months ago (made in USA from Napa). I don't remember what the output was 6 months ago.

So is my thought that is too low charge part of my problem? If it is too low, then how can I kick it up?

Thanks.

If your battery was very low it will take the generator some time to bring the battery back up to full charge. Check the voltage again after working the tractor for half a day. It should be between 6.8 and 7.1 volts.

I suspect the low battery is why it's reading a little low.

It is trying to charge, so probably not the generators fault.

Try shutting it off and check for a voltage drain.

If there is a drain could be the cutout relay in the regulator isn't opening, or something else is draining.

If no drain is found could be the battery is failing. A load test will tell the battery condition.

Something to remember is that these generators only put out 10-15 amps, so it will take a while to charge up.
