Air filter question

Hey guys, I am a newbie to tractors, and I recently purchased a 1952 TO30 that is in amazing condition. I have a question. As far as servicing the air filter, what does that involve? What type of oil goes back in the oil cup? I have posted once before on here and everyone has been very helpful! I really appreciate your help!

The oil will stay in the cup so I like to use what ever oil is left in the quart that I have used out of. Even if you have two different types of oil in the same refilling it won't hurt anything.

You pull the cup off clean it out and wash it out I use gas then fill with what ever oil you use in the engine simple as that

Just about any type engine oil, I use 15w40 just because that's what's here.

But there is also a filter mesh up inside the canister that occasionally needs cleaning. Sometimes it can be taken off and flushed out with solvent, but if really packed up, the mesh will have to come out. Not easy, but sometimes necessary.
Replacment Mesh

I use engine oil in my TO35 filter pan 15w40,

However a few years ago I took the air filter canister off the tractor and soak it in kerosene for 24 hrs,
Then ran clean kerosene through the filter till it ran clean,

Was a long process

Let filter drip dry for 24 hrs

Then reinstalled tractor ran fine, filter had never been cleaned before 1957 model

I would not, not try to take that filter mesh out of canister unless it was a last ditch repair,

Originally they used non-detergent 20 or 30 weight oil. Why non-detergent? Because it will not hold the dirt in suspension like detergent oil does. If you use non-detergent oil, you'll find the oil above the dirt in the bottom looks like new, and can be re-used once you've cleaned out the dirt. Detergent oil just gets dirtier and dirtier until it becomes as thick as grease.

Right on that,

I do use GL-1 oil in the transmission hydraulic system in my TO35 Ferguson
This oil is a non detergent oil and the dirt particles are suppose to fall to the bottom of the sump and be drained out when you change the oil,
However it?s 90 weight mineral oil, so I do not know if it could be used in the air filter,

Next time I change the oil bath oil I May buy some 30 weight non detergent oil
