My TO30 Ferguson I have replaced the gas tank and cap it creates a vacuum and will not let the gas out of the tank. WHAT IS MY PROBLEM?

Thank you Minor will do that,I have also replaced the thermostat 160 degrees, it was getting hot so I removed it. could it be the water pump. Im new at this with old tractors. My tractor is a 1952 TO30.

Not likely the water pump unless it's leaking. Be sure the belt is good, and snug enough not to slip.

Check the radiator fins for grass blocking the air flow.

Could also be the radiator is clogged internally, sometimes flushing will help.

Hopefully it is not a head gasket. Typical symptoms are pressurizing and blowing coolant even before the engine gets hot, misfire on start up, exhaust steam even on a warm day, mysterious coolant loss with no external leaks, water accumulation under the oil cap.

If you can't return the cap you have you can always just drill a small hole in it . A sixteenth of an inch is plenty , just make sure there is a corresponding hole in the gasket under it .

Thanks for the info Steve. I have none of the symptoms that you mentioned, the radiator is good I just had it recored.checked the thermostat it didn't start to open until 190 and fully open at 210. Evidently YT sent the wrong one or it just docent work. Thanks again

Most stats today are 192/195 rated for catalytic converters. These old machines run the 160 just to get the oil up to temp.
As was said, drill a hole in it. That hole will allow any air trapped under the stat during install to escape and also minimizes
engine temp fluctuations as the stat operates.

Bruce I didn't understand your post.do you mean drill a hole in the thermostat or gas tank cap.Sorry for the confusion I'm restoring this old 1952 TO30 and I'm not a mechanic. Been a carpenter all my life but its been fun doing it Thankful for all the help anyone can give me

This is amusing Larry , both your problems could probably be solved just by drilling a small hole :D
I wish the troubles I have could be fixed so easily .
Bruce is correct , air trapped behind the thermostat will prevent it from contact with increasingly hot coolant and stop it from opening . A little hole will let air vent past it when cold and closed and allow it to open properly once the engine reaches temperature .

Both actually. The gas tank is a gravity fed fuel system and an un-vented cap does not it allow it to flow. That gas cap needs a small hole
in it. As for the stat, same story. that hole needs to be on the side of the stat so it allows any trapped air to escape and then provide a
small opening so the engine temp can more easily reach the bulb on the thermostat allowing it to open more gradually.

Thanks Bruce, the hole in the gas cap worked drilled the stat but haven't replaced it yet. Hope this will solve my problem,Yhanks again.
